Anybody have good suggestions for small swimbait jigheads? Looking for something with quality hooks (Gammy or Owner) that'll work for using small, solid body swimbaits like the keitech easy shiner & similar 3.5 - 4" swimbaits. Probably 1/8 - 3/16 oz.

I have been using the Luck-E Strike round jig head (1/4 oz) from Walmart for my 4" swimbaits. They have very sharp Gammy hooks and are about $3 for a pack of 5. Not the prettiest swimbait hooks, but they get the job done.

That might be what I'm using a few of now. I can't remember where I got them. Might've been Wally World.

The J-Will head uses a Mustad, and today every major hook manufacturer chemically sharpens their hooks. The biggest difference is normally the hook points when comparing premium hooks from every brand, Mustad Ultra points, VMC Cone Cut, and Eagle Claw Laser Sharp are almost identical in that they use a needle point that has a single shap edge like that of a spear tip. Owner, Gamakatsu, and Trokar use cutting points which are multi-edged points like a broadhead arrow, and both types have pros and cons but if you are fishing a bait with an exposed hook point, you do better with a needle point because it has more strength and since there isn't any plastic in the way it penetrates easily without cutting a large hole in the mouth of the fish.

Also check out the Owner Ultra series round jig head - quality materials but a little pricey .

 

The VMC Boxer Jig Head & the VMC Flat Shad Jig Head are both Very Good in every respect.

I like things I can order from Walmart (when not placing a $50 order for free shipping at other places) and it looks like I can do that with the VMC Boxer Jig Head. Are these light wire hooks? Would they be ok throwing on a medium spinning rod?

Good question. I'm wondering exactly the same. I'll be using a medium spinning rod to throw these light weight jig heads & small swimbaits. Figured it'll be easier to get hook penetration with the light wire hook. But it might still be ok for me, I'm using 10 lb braid on my spinning set up with no mono or fluoro leader. 

 

I did see these VMC Ike approved swimbait heads are available at Wally World. I'm like you - I hate to make a $50 order on TW to get the free shipping when all I want are a few packs of swimbait jig heads.

Not exactly "Light Wire" I'd call it more of a Medium wire.

 I see this as a benefit however, as the stout smallies I'm routinely targeting have been know to turn out many a lighter hook. 

If it's any consolation I fish them on medium Spinning gear (ST Croix LTB) with 10 lb braid & mono leader with good results.

Also if they are available for you locally, you can check them out yourself.

If I'm throwing small swim baits it will be on a swim jig!

 

I prefer Santone Lures Chris McCall's Rayburn Siwash Swim jig, it has a MONSTER 5/0 Gamakatsu hook!
