I know I'm probably about 2 years late to the party on these lures but how do you guys decide which one to throw? Is there certain situations where the Rage Bug is more cut out for than the Rodent or vice versa. They both look pretty killer. 

I like to use the bug when the water starts to heat up.  Those appendages have a ton of action.  The Rodent is used on smaller jigs due to the profile.  Like Bitsy bugs and 1/4 oz jigs.   When it's cold out I typically use a Beaver style bait that has the appendages connected like the bug but I leave the appendages connected.  

 

Now you can use a Rodent on a regular sized jig for rate of fall but it doesn't look natural to me.  So on a larger jig to get that quicker rate of fall, I'll use a creature bait like a brush hog.

I agree with the above comments. The Rodent is also a much softer plastic. Meaning it will tend to tear a bit easier. The action is also far more subtle or what some would call more of a dead action meaning it is great to add more of a bulk profile to a jig but there isn't a lot of movement from the appendages. These are great for lethargic fish or cold water periods. The Rage bug is made of a more firm plastic and tends to last longer. The appendages kick like your typical rage baits. I do like this one more when fish are active. Both make equally good texas rigged baits or jig trailers but the difference lie in the action of the baits and soft/firm plastic the baits are made of.

I have not enjoyed much success with the Rage Bug yet but the Rodent is great, although very fragile.

The Rage Structure Bug has been my best producer this year and last.

Go figure.

 

 

I'm a huge fan of the bug and starting to like the Mag Bug more and more that I use it.  This is pretty much the only creature I throw anymore.

Have not fished the Mag Bug yet, but I am excited to give it a whirl!
