hook disposal

Are there any programs or places where I can dispose of hooks?  Im dulling them and putting them in pop bottles but that still bothers me as I feel there must be a way to recycle these instead of having them end up in a landfill.

There are fishing line programs but Im not aware of hook programs

I cut them in small pieces with dikes.

I dispose most of mine on tree tops. :D  Other than that, I don't know of any disposal of hooks.

I'd say you're doing better than most.  I cut the tips off or stick the barbs into something, but mainly just to keep my kids from accidentally getting into them.

Hooks will rust pretty quickly in a landfill... now, all the other crud we're putting in there? :undecided:

Stickem down mole holes :)  They will rust away and might stick them lil pieces of crap.

Your bottle method sounds good though.

I usually throw away hooks in the garbage.

I stick the points in a thick piece of card board then toss it in the recycling bin we have.

I dispose of most of mine in a rocky river bottom.

Yep, used until lost between a couple rocks or barb deep in the side of a submerged log. Can't actually think of a time I've had to choose how to dispose of a hook... having said that, fill up some old glass jars, spaghetti sauce and pickle jars come to mind, and then recycle to whole thing. Safe from unsuspecting fingers and won't end up in a landfill.

I put them in empty soft plastic bags, with used/torn soft plastics, and then in the trash.

Beside losing to snags, I dispose of hooks, usually, by

simply tossing in the trash. I've never heard of trashed

hooks being a problem in the same way discarded line

can be...

Not to say they aren't a problem....

And I am a recycler, but our area has strict rules on what

they will and will not recycle. I.e., bottles, cardboard, etc.,

but not recyclable plastic bags, not recyclable tubs of butter

and so forth. Confusing stuff.
