Hey everyone, just wondering how many pounds of drag do you guys prefer for a punching/swimbait reel.

This does have me wondering how many bass anglers even measure their drags. I certainly never have. 

about 14-20 lbs on my swimbait reel and i keep it locked down ....

manufacture's specifications, or with a manual scale, if my drag slips in an weird situation, I would measure it

 

Really depends but for punching really tight with braid, for Swimbaits around cover, enough drag pressure where I wont bend hooks, lose fish in cover. I am always adjusting my drags all day long based on cover & type of line etc.

 

If you have 65lb braid fishing frogs in heavy cover, You should not have any drag until you get the fish close to the boat and it is still green, if you have open water you "May" choose to lighten the drag depending on situation.

 

Tough question but If I am using treble hooks, I use as much drag I can get away with, same with all fishing I guess, I never try to horse a fish in, I would rather go in after it.

When I am punching I have the drag so that it is pretty tight.  When I'm pulling a bass up through the vegetation I tend to pick up quite a bit of extra weight.

Locked down

Work out for at least 3 weeks, taper down routine, carbo load the night before and then turn the star as far as humanly possible, then tighten another half turn with pliers. 

The reel I use for punching is listed as having 11lb max drag. I lock it down and never had any issues. 

Same as my frog set up...As long as I can lock it down, it doesnt matter.
