About to buy a few furys. I was wandering if the 703 would work ok for primary topwater rod but also a shallow mid depth cranking rod. If not I'm going to get the 705cb but they have some refurbished 703s, have heard it has a soft tip.

I like the 703. Its a great all-around rod

It's still going to have a fast tip. If you want a faster tip for your cranks (as opposed to a moderate fast) then it'll do ya just fine. Here is a comparison of a 703c and Champion 684cb. As you can see the bends are much different. I love this 684cb for squarebills and shallow cranks, so I would recommend the 705cb over the 703.

The fury (and savvy) have a slower action than the champ 703. The 703 will work just fine for walking baits/whopper plopper 90s(not enough rod for the 130), buzz baits, squarebills and lipless cranks. No idea about mid cranks but I imagine it will suffice in the 6-8 range. Paul Mueller uses or used the savvy 733 for squarebills on some elite series event. I use the savvy 733 over the champ 705 CB for ripping traps. I would have no issues using it for squarebills. 

The 703 will work better than just Okay.  If you can grab a deal on a refurb 703, that's a great option.  Build your arsenal around that rod. "The best place to start is at the beginning.."

Thanks guys had to sale all my kistlers, even my zbone? But I'm rebuilding now and have two fury swimbait rods and like them so I thought I'd go with the fury series.

I had a fury 705cb and quickly sold it. That sucker was too moderate for me. I had a champ 703 and I liked it a lot. It worked great for topwater and squarebills. 

Yea I'm not crazy about real moderate rods, infact I've never cranked with a cranking rod I used a worm and jig KLX but they are a little soft for a worm rod.
