6' M/F casting rod, good for what?

Recommended Posts

I recently inherited a 6' Medium power Fast action casting rod. It has a short grip. Short enough to make casting 2-handed awkward.

What type of fishing would you use this for?

jerkbaits, poppers, finesse jigs, weightless and lightly-weighted plastics, e.g., wacky rig, close-quarters work, docks, skipping...

I have a M/F 6' casting stick that I used for everything,

but especially wacky and TX. I caught my PB on it with

a 5" Senko wacky rigged.

But each manufacturer will be different on the power.

I.e., Croix a little stiffer than say Field & Stream....

Unless you're working in real heavy cover,

a 6-ft med power / fast action blank makes a very good all-purpose rod.

walk the dog baits, spinnerbaits, poppers. Put some 10 or 12 # mono on it and you can just about do it all.

I would use it for a dock rod - close quarters kind of stuff.  A shorter rod can be good for skipping docks and such.  I also have a short rod that I use for top waters, although I'm not sure if that's an intended use.  It just works well for me. I see others say the same though, so take it for what you will.  I think once you start using it you'll find a lot of different uses for it.

Small topwaters, jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits.
