It's been a long winter up here in the north. I'm excitingly anticipating the first cast of the season (a month and a half away or so)

CAN'T WAIT!

 

The tackle is organized, Rods and reels ready. Now it's more of the waiting game. You guys feel me? (Not the southern guys that's for sure)

 

What to throw on the first cast? A plastic? A Jerkbait? A jig? A spinner? A crank? A lipless? Top water?

 

Man, just throwing the line out is gonna feel good.

From your post I'm assuming there is a restricted "open" season only. Here in MA the season is open year round. However, the ice just left the water about a week ago, and we're getting more snow today! So, I'm guessing it won't be until sometime next week or so before we can launch our boat.

Wow...used to somewhat feel your pain when I used to live in Oregon.  But there we were limited due to rainfall and sometimes snow.  I did though catch some smallies in the Willamette river every month of the year one year....got lucky...but was brutal.  Now it's living large in east Tennessee...hope I never ever have to go back.

try living in Ontario our bass season doesn't open until the 4th Saturday in June

Snow and ice here today and tomorrow as well.

 

Trout season opens tomorrow with an expected 8-10 inches of snow on the ground.

 

When I can finally go fishing I will be pitching a skirted jig with a Christie Craw or Zoom Super Chunk trailer. Ned rig and drop shot GYB Shad shaped worm after that.

I feel ya.  I planned on heading back home to Northern NY next weekend to fish with my dad but the weather is looking crappier and crappier.  40 and rain really sucks...but I gotta get out!

Hitting the Potomac River tomorrow.  Chatterbaits and Rattletraps will be thrown a lot.  

hang in there man, keep dreaming up new ways to sweet talk your wife into new gear. like the doc told me new rods help cure anxiety. or the therapist said a new reel was good theropy for my wrist.

Im hoping its just rain today.Its starting to get warmer.Its driving me nuts being inside.

If I had a place to keep my boat down here in Arlington, I'd be out following you around the river tomorrow lol.

We normally launch out of Hope Springs in Aquia Creek and stay South of Leeyslvania.  Will venture up to Quantico Creek though.  

what's worse is an early spring but waiting for my new boat to be delivered.

While I can sympathize with the short season folks, what is generally true is that when those places wake up they are heaven.  It's like all of the action is packed into a 3 month time frame.

 

@3dees what kind of boat?   I got a new boat last year but got it at the boat show, so it was ready to roll when the weather broke.  I'd be going nuts if I was waiting for a delivery.

I don't guess I've ever seen a lake frozen over. Ponds, yes. Creeks, yes. But a whole lake?!? I may have to travel up north some day to witness this rare and amazing spectacle called a "frozen lake" lol. For reals though that must be sad. Although with were I live now I have to travel to get to a lake. So what's worse, no lake or frozen lake?!?

No lake is much worse. At least with a frozen lake you can ice fish, or maybe take your car out for a "spin"

 

 

^^^That is a GOOD time! Done some of that years ago.

I'm ready to get out as well. Ice is all gone up here, but this boot on my foot from a stress fracture is keeping me from doing anything right now (can't even drive because its on my right foot). Plus my dad had surgery to repair his achilles about a month ago, so it's going to be at least a month before we even thinking about going out.

Starting to get the itch a little bit here now too.  Some local smaller lakes are ice free but most of the bigger ones and further north still have ice.  While we can't legally bass fish until the middle of May, we can start panfishing for crappies and sunfish anytime so I'll be getting my boat out in the next 2 weeks in anticipation of that.

I have to laugh We get over 3.5' of ice every winter, so the ice out is a cause to celebrate & get out fishing. Natural selection happens every year hear with hypothermia taking fisherman that drink & manage to end up in the lake. They last about 5 a 10 minutes in both May & June. So be careful when open water happens

T-minus 4 days...I'm getting antsy in the pantsy.

I hate cold weather, but I admire how people from cold climates embrace it.   Frozen lakes means ice fishing, sledding, and even golfing.  My son goes up with friends every year to go golfing on a lake in January.   Every hole has a bar nearby on shore.
