Dobyn's Fury Dilemma

Featured Replies

So I have come into just enough extra cash to buy a refurbished Fury for $80 from Dobyn's store. My dilemma is should I get the new rod that has some minor damage to the foam on the butt end of the rod and a crease in the Dobyn's logo on the end cap or should I get one of the used ones that are in good condition? The model I'm looking at is the 734C and if you go to the Dobyn's store it's item #100-082. I'm usually anal about something like this, would much rather be the first one who's ever fished the rod but not sure if the damage on it will just drive me crazy knowing it's there...lol. Josh from Dobyn's sent me a pic of what the damage looks like...see attached.

I don't have the money...I have a hard cap at $80 and a new one is $110.

If you sign up for the mailing list at American Legacy fishing you get a $25 coupon.  You still have to pay shipping but I think a new one was like $94 or $97.  Shake the couch cushions and return some bottles.

In that case get the the one with the creased logo. You never know how the used one was fished

Nah, no can do...this is being done on the down-low from the Wife...lol. That $80 is March Madness pool winnings that she doesn't know I have :naughty:. The $80 price is TYD too.

A new one could look like the "damaged" one within seconds of owning it.  It also lends to credibility if the wife asks if you got a new rod...  "No?  look at the butt, it's old."

That is one hell of an idea.  I am going to have to use that excuse.  I have just been shipping them to my work but now my co-workers are getting annoyed with me because they have to keep signing for my fishing stuff.

I vote for the furbished one.  Dobyns won't sell anything that is junk.  I have no doubt they inspected it very well.  Who cares if it has a tiny defect.  Good luck!!

LOL...this is exactly what I've been doing too but luckily I'm the ones that signs for deliveries...it's the sneaking it home part that gets tricky sometimes ;).

Yes, it is tricky sometimes getting them into the house.  I have about 6 tubes here at the office where I have brought the sticks home.  Of course I get "when did you get all of these?"...Oh I had those...lol.

Get the new one to satisfy your anal tendencies and then buy one of those flotation butt covers from TW with your next order and you'll never see it!

I'm out of town for work and ordered a new curtain rod for a very large picture window we have. I just got a text from my wife with a picture of the tube it shipped in and some snarky comments about being "bad with money".

I think I'm sort of obligated to buy a new rod at this point.
