How do you like these reels? I have the chance to get a used one for a reasonable price and was wondering if I should pull the trigger or just save for a newer reel. How do these reels perform?

If you can't afford a new reel, then get it.  Solid work horse, but if you can save and get a newer one save.  I wouldn't pay more than 60 too.

I have 6 200Bs and a 100B. I'd take them over a vast majority of today's reels. They're bigger and heavier, but they are easy to service and almost impossible to kill.

We done!

I still have 3 of them. They weigh nine ounces and are a little bulky. They have heavier spools than the modern reels so light lures can be a little tricky. 

on the flip side they are very easy to break down and are probably the most indestructible reels I own. Externally mine look a lot better than the calcuttas I bought years ago. I've retired them now but mine still look and fish as well as they did when I first bought them. 

I have curados of almost all lines but if I have a choice I'm using the newer ones simply because of the ergonomics and cast ability. But if that doesn't bother you than go for it.

i think dollar for dollar they were some of the best values shimano ever offered

Greatest workhorse reel ever made in fishing. Nothing beats the old, reliable Greenie.

Definition of near undestructable reliability ---> Curado B series.

 

With the exception of the cheap plastic tension knob cap ( the SF version comes with an aluminum cap ) the reel is almost perfect.

Not only are they near indestructible and very easy to do maintenance on, there are super tuning directions out there that make this a very well performing reel.
