Really need to get some good trays/storage especially for deep diving cranks. What do you guys recommend?

55 dollars is a little ridiculous IMO. I could go to Walmart and get a soft tackle bag with 3 big planos that would hold even more cranks than that for like 25 bucks. 

 

 

The going theory is that the red/black boxes is a one time purchase. I have two one for jigs and one for terminal tackle i have had for 3 years.  My only complaint is an oring is coming out of one of them.  Value is in the eye of the beholder but for the right reason i think they are worth it.  In the case of the deep diving plugs i use the plano hydro flow boxes.  I switch baits a lot until i figure it out and they dry well in the hydro flow and i have not had any rust issues since i started using them...

Harbor Freight has these really nice storage containers that hold deep diving cranks really well.  They store spinner baits really well too since the compartments are nice and deep.  The dimension is a little different than typical fishing tackle boxes but they fit fine in most storage compartments on boats. And they are only $5.

The Plano 3700 is 2 inches deep and will be fine for those divers.

I think they are 10.00 and work fine

I have a bunch of those plano 4700 double decker boxes that are well over 10 years old that I use for plastics, that you can get for around 11 bucks. Plano makes a very solid product as well, which I why those boxes just don't do it for me.

These work great for my cranks.  

 

Plano also has a spinnerbait box that works great for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.  I also use the same spinnerbait box to hold all my jigs.

i use the plano elite crankbait medium size for my deep cranks and i have no issue i also put my medium divers in there as well 

Plano makes lots of different specialty boxes.   Go to their web site & find out.  Some guys are fine with their cranks all kinda scrunched together.  Me, I kinda like individual compartments for different baits of the same style and different boxes for different bait styles, primarily so that they don't rub against each other as much in transit and it makes knowing. what I got a little easier.   I like using hook bonnets also, just because I ain't fond of sticking a hook point in my finger while I'm digging through my crank collection, and those often take up extra space, so fewer baits fit in each trough. Therefore DD cranks get a box - med cranks get a box, wake baits get a box and so forth.

If a box fills up I will get another box rather than blend.  Med. divers with square bills for instance.  Taken a step or two farther ( like many of us do) - Wiggle Warts get their own box.   DC8 Timber Tigers get their own box.  Norman DD22's get their own box as do the large Fat Free Shad baits. and so on . . ..I like leaving extra room in each box, in case I should happen to acquire more Wiggle Warts or Timber Tigers or whatever.

 

I understand that it means buying a few more boxes and I'm ok with that.  Be on the lookout for sales/closeouts.   A couple of years ago, the Walmart in my area all closed out on crank boxes, like the one pictured in the previous post - $4 a hit.  By the time I found out, Walmart "A" had 3 boxes left and I got those.  A few days later, driving to work I realized that I was driving past a few other Walmarts.  I ended up with 10 of those boxes altogether from 3 different Walmarts.

 

This year they had the 3600 size regular boxes closed out for $2.88.  I've bought 10 of those so far.  Besides fishing purposes, those boxes are a good size for organizing random loose stuff in my shop. - specialty saw blades, random drill bits, stuff like that.

The Plano Elite Crankbait Storage boxes are nice.  If you have really large crankbaits you might want to just get one of the single-open-compartment Planos, put hook bonnets on all crankbaits, and just put them all in the single compartment.  This will only work if you use the hook bonnets so the crankbaits don't get all tangled up but you can store a bunch of baits in there.

I have also found using pony tail rubber bands to hold the trebles together allows for the baits to be pulled out very easily. Very cheap solution too.

I use the Plano 3730 box for my deep divers. It's basically a deeper 3700 tray and it works well for jamming quite a few plugs into.  

i advise against the bass mafia coffin for deep diving cranks.  most of the deep divers i have won't fit into one slot in the bass mafia coffin.  i like the plano crankbait trays myself.

The jigs and spinnerbaits where the skirt is banded slide into little slots on the box to hold them in place.  At the top of those little slots there is little cuts that allows you to tuck the spinnerbait arms.  Somewhat along the lines of how a safety pin works.
