Revo rocket

Featured Replies

What are people's thoughts on this reel?

Does it live up to the hype? Worth the $230 price point?

Its fast, but what are the short-comings?

Thanks!

I have the Revo Toro Rocket, which is sort of like a 400-sized Revo Rocket, and I'm very happy with it. Many guys I know use it for ripping 12-16 oz musky baits, and they say it's held up well (many reels don't). I use it for lighter applications, and it's awesome for burning baits above shallow weeds and picking up line quickly. I'd imagine that the regular Revo Rocket would be similar.

If you're price conscious the 8.3:1 ratio Lew's Tournament MB has almost identical specs, are made in the same factory with pretty much the same parts for a bit cheaper. It's 2" less per turn than the Rocket.

If you're expecting to throw a 2oz. crankbait (like a 10xd) on a 9:1 reel, you're going to have a bad time...

I agree, but your post reminded me of a pic I saw on TT showing a slew of zillion 9:1's with squarebills in tow on Omori's boat.  Of course this makes more sense than a 10xd, but it made me think of cranking with fast reels.  If anyone has this pic I'd like to see it again.

Lipless mainly but slowing it downs should be fine. I use an 8:1 (~30"/ turn) for everything now.

Interesting about Lews. I'll take a look.

Thanks!

I think pros like tak do slow it down....it's all about getting the fish in the boat instsntly.

It casts just fine long distance...I think you'd find the retrieve speed is way to fast for crankbaits.

Dude it's at Walmart listed for 187! Must be a mistake.

just ordered it. Lol

I have it and love mine.  But @37" per turn, it is VERY fast.  Had no problems at all.

Good luck!
