I went down to my local pond yesterday to learn how to skip lures with my baitcaster. After a few overspools, I figured it out. Then, when I skipped under a low hanging branch, my line snapped off at the spool. Later, it snapped as soon as I got a hit. This is 1 month old twelve pound test line! This wasn't an isolated incident, though. I have had that line snap when pulling line from a spool, and break during normal casts. I need to stop cheaping out on this line.

It's probably breaking because when you backlash it puts a kink in the line and causes a weak spot. Omni flex is so cheap you can re spool st the end of the day if you had a backlash 

Yeah. For the love of humanity, please don't use that line

omni flex is good for 2 things, backing, and bluegill.

Betcha can't catch many logs with that line either. It is good for recycling.

Seriously wouldn't even consider using that line for anything other than backing. Do yourself a favor, take it off your reel immediately. Get yourself a better line.

 

I would suggest Sunline Natural Mono. If you plan on sticking with mono. It is a thin diameter and it's pretty strong. It's also very manageable and should perform way better for your skipping.

I have so little money, though... I suppose the lures I get make up for line price.

Seriously, Trilene Big Game is not that much more $$, and is much better mono.

Sunline is 6.99 though. It won't break the bank. BUT it is a smaller spool than the omniflex.

 

You can look at Yozuri it is a strong line. It is also inexpensive. I know walmart used to sell a big spool for like 10 bucks.

Big Game is not expensive. This is a strong line as well. Just not as manageable as sunline in my experience with it. BUT it will hold up.

 

Keep some of that omniflex on the reel as backing, and then add a better quality mono as your main line. This way you are using less of the good mono, and you take advantage of the omniflex you already have.

Use trilene big game.  It's only a little more than the stuff you are using but is a line plenty of users in here recommend. 

Get a spool of big game and  call it a day
