Still freezing in Northern MI

Featured Replies

Its June already and water temps are still very cold. At this rate the Bass and Bluegill wont even spawn until like July:lol: Hope it warms up. How are the other Michiganders doing at catching fish...

Yes...

Fishing in the U.P. has been great for me this year.  As of right now all the smallies where I am at are still in prespawn.  New to boat fishing so that is taking some getting used to, but shore fishing has been going great when I can come across fish.

Not really the UP but I just got back last week from a solid week on St. Clair.  Weather was brutal but the spawn was on.  The week after we left a buddy was up on Saganaw Bay and it took 25lbs to be in the top 10.

Here in central Michigan, I haven't gotten out nearly as much as I usually do. With the weather, my son still in school, and his t-ball it's taken up most of my time. When I have gotten out the smallies are in the creeks, the wife caught 4 LMB last Saturday when we took the boat out, no size to them. I've yet to catch a LMB this year. Neither species appeared to have spawned yet. I did see Lake Michigan's water temp at shore was 58 the other day, that was by Holland for what its worth.

I live in north central Idaho so I feel your pain. We had a late winter with a huge amount of snow pack in the high altitudes. To say our rivers are extremely high right now is an understatement. Every year is different and challenging until water levels are stable again. When you find the right spot and presentation, it can go from one or two smaller fish to a slam fest in minutes.

I'm in the mid Michigan area and fishing has been good!  It's been warming up really well over here.

I'm in northern lower MI (30 minutes from the bridge) ~

Fishing's been Great and the Catching's been even better.

Pre-spawn was particularly good and with most water temps in this area tickling 60 - I'm seeing plenty of post spawn bass.

Won't be long before the brown bass head for the depths  . . . .

Water temps around here are not even close to 60. Good there are other Michigan people getting on the fish though

Fished LSC this weekend for smallies and did ok- not great. We had a few over 4 & 5lbs but not the giant we wanted. It was relatively slow for everyone but we managed 10 fish or so.  We had to really slow it down to catch anything. The drop shot was by far the most effective.

Most of the places I fish in the Grand Rapids area are spawning or post-spawn now, with temps in the mid/upper 60s, but it's still quite variable lake to lake.  Three of the better ones over the last few weeks: 170512_20in.thumb.jpg.4d086f205e97b1174f9e80038cade81e.jpg170514bass.thumb.jpg.e09f49e1c3f618f74e2bcf235abd0b84.jpgPostspawner170607.thumb.jpg.6d04934f7c7156e03f626542e845a37e.jpg:
