Dobyns Fury vs St Croix Premier

Featured Replies

I have been planning on buying a Dobyns Fury, but just the other day I saw that the St Croix Premier is going on sale at Cabelas for $109. That is the exact same price as the Fury. I have been reading great reviews on both. If anyone has any experience with them please leave a comment.

Thanks

Both are good. You could probably toss a coin and be happy with either one.

What application do you intend on using the rod for? Sometimes that helps narrow things down.

Also, if you have the ability to hold either one, that might help you decide as well.

The SC is about $30 more then the Fury normally and a good deal if it's the exact rod you are looking for. Don't buy something just because it's on sale, buy it because it's right for you.

I've fished both and they're both nice rods at that price point. It's really going to be a matter of personal preference so if you can hold both to get a feel for which feels better to you, that would be best, even better if you can put the reel you plan to use on them.

It will be an all purpose rod in MH. I don't have a Cabelas or a BPS near me so I can't really go hold one.

I like the Premiers, super durable and plenty sensitive. The newer versions, like last 8 years or so, are way more accurate on power than the 15 year old models I have. They last as long as you wish to keep them. My old ones you can’t even read the labels anymore they are so faded. I still fish em.

Dobyns fury hands down. I own two premiers and while they're good rods the furys are more sensitive and lighter. Also I find the butt ends of the premier casting rods  to be too short, for me anyways.

I’ve never fished with a fury, but I have two mh premiers and love them.
