Fenwick Boron X 6' pistol grip

Featured Replies

Any info on a Fenwick Boron X pistol grip from the early 80s?

Sweet find.  I have Browning Midas Boron rod and it will launch a 1/4 oz bait further than any other rod I have.

when boron was popular (the 70s) I was still liquid, but I have heard they are/were very brittle

I recently picked up the same rod at a yard sale, because I remember them from way back.  I put a reel on, one and did some fishing with it, but it is very heavy compared to modern rods, and doesn't balance wrk with. The newer lightweight reels of today.

I had a bunch of Browning Boron rods. I wish I had kept them.

I built a couple of rods in 81' using boron blanks and both were 6 footers.  They were stiff by the standards at the time and were relegated to worm fishing. The supplier I used dropped them because of the rate of breakage.  I recall selling both for what I had in them.  Back then the myth was, if you store a rod by using nails in the wall, it would break where it rested on the nails.  We've come along way.

Any other info?  Thanks!

I had one which I modified the handle and threw poppers until it broke. Fished ok, but most boron rods (and tennis rackets) didn't last long for a good reason.

Not a pistol grip but a Fenwick Boron, 2 piece, 6’-6” Medium-Light spinning that was my dad’s all-time favorite rod.  He caught a million smallies and walleyes on it since the 80’s.  Okay maybe 2 million...

After he died 2 years ago, on what would have been his 88th birthday,  I ceremoniously caught one fish on it on the lake where he was born (literally when his parents were on a fishing trip in 1928) and then I retired it on the wall of my office.

Thx for bringing up Boron and a good memory ...

I don't have any Fenwick rods, but I do have some Phenix Boron rods with extended handles. I still fish with these rods especially for vertical presentations. These  rods balance well with my Ambassadeurs
