Hello From Louisiana

Featured Replies

Hi folks.  Paul here.  55 years old and have bass fished most of my life.  My first largemouth was caught on a Mann's strawberry worm.  As with most of my pursuits, I am very casual about bass fishing.  I have fished very few tournaments.  Most of the time I fish for bass I fish brackish water. Down here we can catch speckled trout on one cast, bass on the next and redfish on the next. Brackish bass are generally not very large.  I have a saltwater boat and a few kayaks.  Most of my dedicated bass fishing is done from a kayak in brackish water.  Since the bass are smallish, I use lightweight tackle and smaller baits.  90% of my bass fishing is done with plastic worms and frogs.  I have to keep the assortment simple in the kayak.  My largest bass was an estimated 7+ pounds.  I caught it on a purple 4" Senko out of the kayak in a lake.  I came here mainly to read and learn.  I may be able to drop a little knowledge on kayaks, light tackle and small baits, but not much else.  I will say that if any of you come to the NOLA area and want to kayak or marsh fish, drop me a PM and I'll hook you up.

While it has nothing to do with bass fishing, it may have been worthwhile to note that I am retired active duty Coast Guard and still work for the Coast Guard as a Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Specialist.  I ran the rescue boats and did the law enforcement for most of my active duty career.  If we ever delve into safety related topics, I may have an opinion.

Tommy, how about our weekend weather of late?  How many months has it been since it hasn't been blowing or raining on a weekend?  And our forecast for this weekend...

Hey Dran, welcome to the Forums.

Always could use a Metarie guy to help with suggestions and tell us some stories.

Just remember to wear your purple and gold and yell "Geaux Tigers" when you set that hook!

And where do go to fish? Out of Shell Beach? Venice? Lac Des Allemands? The Atcafalaya? Into the Biloxi? Audubon Park lagoon? City Park lagoon?

Let us know.

Do you see the Mardi Gras parades in Metarie? Or do you go to the French Quarter for the fun?

Great having you with us.

Geaux Tigers!!!!!

Safety? In Louisiana and Mississippi?

Like wear your PFD? Watch for other boaters in the marsh and swamps? Feed the alligators marshmallows and see if they follow you around? Install your running lights on your boat before first light? Head out before dawn because you know where to go? Be sure to have your shotgun loaded and hidden in the boat with the safety off so you can blast any duck or geese you see, even if it is out of season? Don't worry about those storms - they are far away as noted by the lightning. What does "posted" mean anyway? They don't own the water. Sharks around the menhaden boats? Never. It is OK to go swimming. Let's tie onto an oil platform and try for some big ones. The jon boat can handle the waves. No reason to lock the shack, who would want to break in it on the bayou?

Come on Paul, what could go wrong in Louisiana or Mississippi?

Share some stories with us. :D

I am sure you'll get a good story over time. I am not a big parade person, but I do go to one in Metairie each year.

I am a Southern Miss Man.  That purple and gold is hideous and most LSU fans can't even spell it.

Gators?
