Best $100 Rod

Featured Replies

Ok, next check, I’m cashing in on a Shimano Scorpion DC. Upgrading from a current black max, huge upgrade right? LOL. So what I’m wondering is what’s the best rod for $100. Mostly used plastics. But will occasionally throw top water, and maybe a squarebill. Prefer an all around type rod. Suggestions??

Simple ....an Abu Garcia Veritas 6ft 6in Medium Heavy Moderate Fast, it's the most versatile BaitCasting Rod you will find in the Veritas lineup. If you want a longer Rod, then the 7ft 1in Medium Heavy Moderate Fast Veritas. Both Rods will do well with Sammy style Topwaters, SquareBills and even most Plastic Worms. I've even thrown Hollow Frogs in tight quarters on that Rod with braid. It's very sensitive and yet forgiving for a graphite Rod .

Daiwa Tatula TAT701MRB. Moderate Fast action. Between M/MH power. Get it from ALCF through big auction site with 20% coupon. $96

7 foot spinnerbait model st croix mojo best do it all rod 130$ though?

I bought two of the Shimano expride this year.. great rod for the money imo.. but I'd probably say the falcon bucoo mh,mod fast would be my go too.. the thing is an awesome all around rod..

My current all around rod, and the one I demand the most flexibility out of, is my 7'5" lunkers edition defender from favorite. I know alot of people are turned off by their marketing but I've been a fan and now own a bunch of them. The regular defender comes in at 7'2" and is 100 bucks on the nose... just gotta wait for a free shipping promo is all (but they did about halve their shipping prices).

Just my $0.02, they haven't let me down yet.

I like my Lews TP1

I have one of these as well, they are pretty darned good rods imo. I can throw pretty much anything with it, but mine is a medium-fast so it's not much for jigs. About the heaviest I have though aside from maybe the GX2 uglystick, which is my salt rod, is my short drifiting Daiwa rod which throws up to 2 oz. It's 8' though, so not appropriate for most pond usage.

Powell Diesel is a nice rod for that price.

Most definitely

This question comes up a lot. Lol. I am also about to upgrade from Walmart rods to $100 rod as well and narrowed my choices to *** black fate and and a fury rod. I have seen a lot of suggestions for fury but nothing on the black fate. Is it good or bad that there are no reviews ?

I like my Fenwick HMG. It’s a 7’ mh/f. I’ve used it on extreme ends, throwing weightless senkos all the way up to a 1oz swimbait. It’s got good sensitivity and a very comfortable grip.

I'm of the belief there are several nice rods for that price. I choose cabelas tournament zx and xml rods exclusively.  Catch em on sale and they're less than 100. Lifetime no questions asked warranty.  Winn grips and several models to choose from. Hard to beat all that in my neck of the woods. My buddies and I own probably 25 combined and I've broken one last year. Totally my fault. Rode 15 minutes to cabelas and came home with a new one. Good luck. Xml' s are onsale right now...normal 129 for 90.

I haven't used a Fury to compare, but the Tatula has to be the best $100 rod of the rods I own.  Most of mine were a few dollars under that.  I can't find a Fury for less than its $109.99 MSRP....even on ebay.  Dobyns must be controlling the price.  My second favorite $100 rod is the HMG.

At around 100, and maybe a little more, I'd recommend a Dobyns Fury, Okuma TCS, or BPS Johnny Morris Signature Series (currently on sale for 120, and I like it better than the other two).

For all around, topwater, and mainly plastics, I personally would go with a M/F, but if you think you'll be using heavier lures, a MH/F would work as well.  Estimate an average weight of the lures you'll be casting, and whichever rod has a lure weight range where the middle is closest to that average, go with that one.

Also, if you're pairing this with a '17 Scorpion DC, I think a nicer rod would do it more justice.  You can get Shimano Exprides for under 200 through eBay auctions... The expride is my favorite rod hands down.  Very light, sensitive, and feels better than the above three I mentioned (also better than the Curado rod).  Just my 2 cents; however, that being said, I have two metanium 100s - one is paired with a m/m expride and the other with a mh/f bps jmss - I love both setups for what I use them for.

ALFC has "make best offer" on most if not all of their Dobyns rods on the bay.
