Style of hook recommendation for 4.8 Keitech

Featured Replies

I've got some Keitech 4.8 Fat Swing Impacts I've been wanting to try out as swimbaits. My question is about the hook. For that size I'll probably go with a 4/0 EWG with the twist on head screw. My question is should I use with one with or without a jig head? If not and I wanted to get one with a belly weight on the underside what would I want to go with like 1/8 oz?

I use Owner 4/0 or 5/0 Twistlock, 3/32 weight. I use the Moaner Weighted Stroker Hooks as well.

I am certain the 4/0 is the right size, as you've shown me here. I'm saying if I want to get one with the attached weight on the bottom what size weight I should go with. I'm thinking 1/8 oz but I wanted to see if people thought that was good or not.

The owner beast 4/0 is exactly what you want.  The flashy swimmer comes in heavier weight and the blade can be removed or changed

Jig head the swimmer sinks head down, keel weight the swimmer sinks belly down or glides forward more then a jig.

WOW, BPS has them at just under 8 bucks a pop! OUCH!

Keitechs are not know for their durability. But a good center pin screwlock will make them last a bit longer. So that is where the owner beast hook pays for itself as opposed to a 4/0 ewg. And 1/8 is just enough weight to keep the tail motion from causing body roll toword the head. Too much weight and you have to move the bait faster to keep it off the bottom and take a little of the motion at slow speeds that they are known for.

Put them on the back of a spinnerbait, bladed jig, or swim jig.

If you want a screwlock hook, I'd go with an Owner Beast 4/0 with the 1/8oz lead, or an Owner Flashy Swimmer 5/0 with the 1/4oz weight.

I've been using the Trokar Swim Blades in 3/0 1/8oz with 4.3-4.8" Swing Impact Fat and my hook up ratio is really high. I feel like the super wide gap is necessary because of the girth of the Keitech's body.

I bought a bunch when Dick's had them on sale.
