Looking to start pouring some jigs.

Just picked up a Lee pot for a good price. If you had to pick two jigs molds, which two would you pick?

Depends on what type of fishing you do. I do not fish rock. The two jig molds I would recommend would be Snootie Jig and Poison tail of Casting jig mold by Do-It.

Thank you, I don't do a ton of jig fishing but I'm starting to get into it more so I'm still not 100% sure on stuff yet. I'll check those two out thank you!!

If you are looking for some tutorial on skirt tying and pouring start-up. PM me your e-mail and I will e-mail them to you. A lot of good basic stuff to get you started.

If I were you I'd go with an Arky jig mold and the poison tail mold. The Arky mold I'd get is the Trokar Arky jig mold (you don't need to use Trokar hooks) and the poison tail I'd go with the mold that has the sizes you use most. The poison tail is the most versatile jig I ever used, it uses a 30 degree hook so it works well for swimming but it also has a wider bottom making it a good jig for working along the bottom. The Arky mold just works in most types of cover, it isn't what I would use for thick grass but wood, rock, brush and sparse grass it will be fine. The Trokar arky uses a 60 degree heavy hook and that makes it different from the other Arky molds out there which is why I recommend that one.

You need to tell us what you fish most in order to recommend what molds. What I use or others use most will be different than your fishing style. For me the 2 most cost effective molds are the shakey head and Eakins style molds. I have saved $100's of dollars using these but it fits my style of fishing.

Brush jig mold with 5/8, 3/4 & 1oz cavities, and the seedless football jig mold for the Trokar hooks, but you can use any hook just heat it up and bend it then re temper the hook.

Can you explain how you heat, bend and re-temper hooks? I have a swim jig mould which requires a 30 degree hook, but I don't believe there are any smaller lighter wire 30 degree hooks made, so I've been bending 90 degree hooks, but the snappage rate has been high!

Like stated where and how you fish should determine which molds.  I have owned and used most of the ones listed.  Several of them I have sold because I did not like the way the performed for me.  My 2 would be football and Trokar swim jig molds, but that is just me and how I fish.

Hey there again, about to place my order, which hooks do you use with the Trokar arky mold?

I use the Owner 5317 as well as the Eagle Claw 786BP. You can use the Mustad 32786 as well as a few others but I think most heavy wire 60 degree hooks will work in that mold. If you want good performance with good value I'd go with the Eagle Claw 786BP or the Mustad 32786, both of those are great hooks that won't break the bank.

I second the poison tail mold. It is excellent in rock in my experience. Particularly the 3/8 version. I have to really work to get one hung up permanently. Thats saying something in the water i fish.
