I friggin’ hate that guy 😜

You didn't hear this from me.

But I've heard whispers about a voodoo doll in your likeness.

Does your face hurt at all ?

  • It's going to be a few more days before I can get to do the editing of the video we shot. Weather here is about to get very 'seasonal' so I'm going when I can. Have to get to this later.

  • Got back stateside last night. Presently, I am in TX but should be back up in the north woods and home some time tonight.  Thankfully the travel both ways was mostly painless. More on than l

Since my last entry here, I think I've repacked twice, purchased some new sunglasses,

changed out a few baits and even subtracted a few baits.

Most importantly, perhaps, is that this one is already paid for in full.

Which, for a retired enlisted guy living on a fixed salary, is a pretty big deal.

I call it creative financing.

My wife thinks that's funny, but this is no laughing matter.

OK - maybe it is.

188 Days and a wake-up.

And here are Scorable Bass stats from the epic Oct 2018 trip.

It was getting hard to keep track on the water.

So Big Fish Jeff kept the notable catches on his phone.

This is a screenshot.

Ask me again why we call him Big Fish Jeff.

That's mental! 248 days left to go for me. I set aside some $ from my tax return to cover what I still owe and to bring with me. I'm back to fishing in Ohio and I'm being reminded how much more difficult it is to catch 5+ pound bass here than in Mexico!

I've sorta started buying some tackle. Based on my trip and info in this post, I believe it makes sense to bring a pretty healthy supply of Senkos. The weighted-wacky rig definitely seems to be a thing. My guide was very partial to 6 inch (not 5, not 7) Gary Yamamoto (Not Z-Man Giant TRD's) Senkos. Unfortunately, the bulk packs are only available for the 5 inch, so every time I make a tackle order I add a few bags of 6 inch Senkos.

If I had to pick a "Favorite" Big Bass bait for Lake Baccarac,

these would be very close to, if not at the top of, the list.

It's a custom A-Jay deal.

I call it "estúpido."

And that wake-up deal is really BS.

There's no way I'm actually sleeping night before we fly out.

My Spanish is very limited. However, having worked with plenty of Spanish speaking crews, I quickly learned, estupido gringo! I’m not afraid to call myself out, even in Spanish. 😂

I learned it, they didn’t teach it, just for clarification. They were very respectful.

I need to study up a bit before I go back. Vamonos, Grande, and Plastico is about as far as I got. 236 Days to go for me...

264 Days Out. Just booked my flights. Pulled the trigger early as I feel with fuel prices going up, there's a chance that flight prices will follow. Really just a complete roll of the dice at this point. Tickets are fully refundable.

Now 220 days out. My strategy of booking my flights so early hasn't panned out. Airfares have gone down, not up. Oh well, you pay your money and take your chances...

The rainy season in the area of Mexico where Lake Baccarac is located

runs from late June through October, with the heaviest and most frequent rainfall typically occurring in August.

While the wet weather brings lush, vibrant landscapes, the lake water level can and often does rise several feet. During this wet period, the lodge itself is routinely closed,

but anglers are back late September or early October depending on the weather.

We're booked for the end of the 1st and into the 2nd week of October for this next trip.

So 136 days, an entire rainy season, and a wake up.

Sub 200 days (199) to go for me. With everyday that goes by that I don't hear any news on El Salto, I believe it's more and more likely that I'll be going to Baccarac. At this point, I don't expect any news on El Salto until October. If it doesn't open in October I'll be convinced I'm going to Baccarac.
