Lake Baccarac Lodge In Mexico

@HawkeyeSmallie when I to Lake Baccarac Lodge in 2017, between commercial airfare from Albany, NY to Los Mochis, the cost of the lodge itself, and tipping of the guide and lodge staff, I estimate I spent around $3500 total for 3 days of fishing. Add in a couple hundred more for a couple articles of clothing and a little bit of tackle that I needed to stock up on. Obviously that cost will be significantly higher today as prices of everything continue to get ridonkulous, and it’s been a while since I’ve priced out a trip.

Thanks. It's definitely pushing over $5k then.

That's what I was sorta expecting as there's no easy way to get there (I'm assuming).

I'm really curious what a trip like this would cost. Total.

Ballpark of course as people live in different parts of the country.

More or less than $5k a person?

I have no clue.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you guys typically spend? Total. So travel there, fishing/stay, and travel back.

Might have to add something to the bucket list.

Thanks!

I paid $2500 for 5 days of fishing, lodging (6 nights), meals, drinks. About $530 in tips, $700 in airfare. $4K ish, not including tackle...

Gives me a good idea.

Now just have to convince the wife I'm worth it. LOL

When fishing for giants, a strong jig game can be essential.

The @Siebert Outdoors Megalodon Brush Jig is my deep water rocky bottom jig of choice.

3/4 oz, wire tied with a 7/0 Mustad Ultra Point Hook.

The Recessed Eye—Protects the knot and improves hookset angle.

The Z-Man Giant TRD makes an awesome, virtually indestructible trailer.

I spend $1K on tackle. I have issues! Complete overkill. I'll be using a lot of what I purchased locally all season. Everything else will be packed away and ready to go when I go back to Mexico in December (309 Days).

I haven't tried any yet, but I am hearing a lot of good reports from others in Mexico about a swimbait made by a company called Real Prey.  They are made of silicone and look similar to a Bacca Burrito.  They are supposed to be fairly durable.  I personally have had success with the Burrito, and know of others that swear by storm Wildeye swimbaits.

This was good advice that I unfortunately didn't take. The guy I was fishing with caught a couple good ones on a Real Prey. I was throwing a Burrito which is similar but the action of the Real Prey is unique and it made a difference. I will have them in my box next time I go.

Swimbaits don't really work in Mexico.

Say what now . . . . .

I know, right?

I have most of an entire season that has the potential to be a super special for big fish brown bass between us and this next Baccarac trip. But despite the great times that offers, perhaps because it is closer and more accessible,

these Mexico trips have a way of capturing our imagination and commanding extra excitement that is hard to match. Plus almost being pulled overboard by a few of those grouper size Crazy mexican giants,

Gets addicting awfully fast !

That's a tank! Just dipped under 300 days (299) for me. There is definitely some joy in looking forward to the trip and the prep as well.

True story! I'm definitely looking forward to getting back to Mexico, but also getting back on the water locally. I'm targeting the weekend of March 7th here in Ohio.

Jumping out of my skin here. I'm leaving this weekend for fishing starting Monday. It sure is a crazy trip to get there--much harder than El Salto/Piccachos--but I'm hoping that it is worth it!

Sweet !

Perhaps think of the travel as part of the adventure.

Are you flying into Los Mochis or Culiacán ?

Hope you can follow up with a number of big bass reports.

Good Luck

Flying into Los Mochis (from Buffalo to Orlando, to connect with buddy, to Miami, to Mexico City to Los Mochis. Fingers crossed that all goes smoothly. If we love this place, we're going to have to figure out a better way.

And if I catch some big bass, I'll provide reports!

We've made a couple of 3 similar commercial flight journeys.

All proved very adventurous. If you are clearing customs in Mexico City you'll need plenty of time before your final flight. Like at least 2 hours or you may miss your last flight out. Once you get to the lodge, check with Chad Meenan ( Lodge manager and great guy) about any subsequent trips and alternate fly in options. We prefer chartering a plane from looks like Phoenix this time, straight to the lodge. It's more $$$ obviously but we get an extra half day on the lake and it's considerably more convenient.

On the way down, we have a 3.5-hour layover in Mexico City, so that should be enough to catch the flight to Los Mochis. On the way back, our connection in Mexico City is much tighter, but I'm hoping that, since we don't have to go through customs it is doable.

Sounds about right.

Make sure you get on the right "Bus" at the airport in Mexico.

Should be a really awesome trip !

Have fun.
