What is everyone using for Polarized glasses. Seems there has been alot of growth in the angler sunglasses market here over the last few months. I have been using Costas. Have two pairs with green lens and the other with smoke lens. Seems like the Costas quality has dropped off since they blew up as a business.

 

Ive been suggested the oakley prizm and the Smith chromopop. 

 

Does anyone have any suggestions, dislikes for freshwater water fishing?

Maui Jim.  Can't remember the frame style, but I'm using their darkest smoke/mirror lens.

My old guy eyes and pin head means I need "readers" and a smaller frame size.

Onos Polarized Sunglasses are available in many sizes, frame & lens configurations plus are offered with or without bifocal readers.

I have a few pairs and they've worked & held up nicely.

These are decent J -

Check Amazon  - $$ is often a little better. 

 Knots and getting light line into a small drop shot hook or hair jig kicks my butt.   

For night ops I go with 'reader' safety glasses.

My wife always snickers when they go on -

I'm sure I must look stunning.

I have looked at Maui Jim, I had always sorda written them off. I always thought they were more of gimmicky brand. Had someone suggest them and they look good and functional.

My girlfriend's sister worked for them for years, and they definitely aren't gimmicky.  I've owned a pair of Costas and these every bit as nice.

They are polarized red/gold lens but not sure if they're prizm? They work perfectly for me in freshwater (that's all I fish).

I bought these Orvis with 1.5X readers a while back off Amazon for my birthday. I got the amber lenses. They're very good for fishing, tying knots and driving, but I still keep my others for walking. Sounds stupid but I feel like I'm always about to fall down walking in bifocals. I should probably just stop using the other pair and force myself to use the readers.

@the reel ess, doesn't sound stupid to me at all.  I can't wear bifocals going up or down stairs.  In fact, the only time they were much benefit at all, was standing at a urinal because junk looks bigger

Whatever you decide on, I’d encourage you to avoid the big conglomerate owned companies (i.e. Costa, Oakley, Native, etc.), and go with one that’s privately owned. Those of us that wear prescription glasses will thank you for it. 

For decades I had to wear corrective lens polarized sunglasses and could only use brands that offered prescription lens. Now after cataract surgery my vision is 20-20 and can use over the counter polarized sunglasses unlimited brands to choose from.

I use Mau Jims dark grey for everyday use and bright sun use on the water and dark Amber for cloudy days and when looking for bass in the water as the amber color tends to separate the bass from green background coloration better then grey.

I drive for a living and have tried most all of them. And Costas are the most consistent in lens clarity and continuity. I can't stand a warped view. It gives me vertigo.  Also, the Costas warranty is excellent. I have used it for years and am very pleased. 

 

Another thing is the GLASS lenses on the 580G lenses are very lightweight to be glass and are crystal clear.  They're also VERY scratch resistant. They also shed water like a car that's freshly polished.  

 

My brother swears by Maui Jims but when we are fishing together I can point out underwater things that he can't see. 

 

I'm no Costa Delmar fanboy. Just real observations from real life experiences for about the last 10 years.

Don’t get me wrong. They make great sunglasses. I just choose not to support vertical monopolies. I’ve owned two pairs from them, but both were purchased before they got bought out. I’m not a big fan of glass near my eyes. I’ve had too many weights whip past my head to take that sort of chance. 

 

I recently bought a pair of Wiley X. They’re cheaper than any pair of Costas I’ve owned, and the optics are just as good. You ever given them a shot? They actually test each pair of lenses for optical clarity before they install. Quite a bit of their business comes from the police/military, so they can’t afford to put out sunglasses that distort your vision. I also like the fact that I don’t need to switch them out for safety glasses when I’m running power tools or at the range. They handle everything I need them to.

I use Oakley’s, but my company paid for em. My prescription is weak enough where I don’t really need the scripts for fishing, anyway. I’ve had em forever and they’ve seen better days, but I love em. I wore Oakley glasses forever, and they just take a beating. I wore the straight back arm design, but hated them after a while. My sunglasses are the Holbrook’s, and I plan on buying new lenses for the ones I own, and another pair with “low light” polarization when my insurance renews. 

 

I bought some “Knockarounds” for about $25. I’ve been impressed for the price. Very good polarization for $25, and I’ve dropped em off my head a couple too many times to still see out of em, but I do. 

 

I’ve suggested Shady Rays, before. I’ve never tried them, but have been meaning to. Their policy is just too good not too. You can lose a pair, and they’ll replace them. They want you as a customer that bad. And they’re only like $50 (ish?) a pair. I’ve heard good things from others who have them. 

 

 

I bought a pair of Costas this year after wearing cheap/Walmart polarized glasses for forever. Wow what a difference. I have the Motu frame with 580G green lenses. Love everything about them, and they’re awesome on the water.

These.  I have the Prism H2O, Prism Tungsten, Chrome Iridium, and a set of Bronze Polarized lenses from FUZE that I have been wearing exclusively since I got them.  The Prism Tungsten lenses are fantastic for low light, and the Prism H2O are my go to for all around.

Ive had Oakley’s that we’re polarized, smith and now costa. I know your not a fan of them by reading earlier post. I have heard nothing but good about Wiley x. Also if your a gov employee or fire/law/military shoot me a pm.

The big named brands listed are all great,  but a cheap pair of Strike Kings will often accomplish the same goal. 

 

Myself, patiently waiting for the colorblind lens technology to become polarized.
