Strong Bass

Featured Replies

I been fishing this area and it just blows my mind  the strength and speed of these bass I've been catching, they only been in 1-3lb range but OMG not only the fighting power but once I get them in the boat and lip them to get the lure out of there mouth the strength they have it's mind blowing for the size they are, plus the strikes are like they are angry and mad.I was fishing a toad the other day parallel to the shore it was a long cast and I saw this wake flying up to it like it was a shark or tarpon couldn't believe the speed, needless to say it was pretty exciting!!!

One of the lakes I fish often they fight extremely hard. It helps that they're usually really fat and dense fish and have quite a bit of cover to get into also. Makes landing the big ones even more challenging.

Several years ago, I fished in Oklahoma on a large ranch that had 3 or 4 lakes that were part of a private fishing club/network. These lakes were being actively managed for bass size and we were told to cull anything less than 14". The lakes were super healthy, the bass were a strain with a high dose of Florida genetics.

2 pound bass fought like they were half again larger, say like a 3 pounder out of many public waters I fish in Texas.

Every so often you run into a determined LMB, but for the most part, the fight isn't why bass fishing is popular. Large males during the pre spawn, just before they get on the nests often do a good smallie impersonation when hooked.

A lot of times river bass are more prone to hard runs and jumps due to the environment they live in.....current.  The sheer determination to turn and dive, then turn and jump with smallmouth is why they are my favorite fish to catch.
