Does the G. Loomis GLX ever outshine the NRX?

Featured Replies

I own 4 G Loomis NRX’s and I love them all. I’ve never used a GLX. Does anyone have both? Does the GLX ever top the NRX for any presentation? I thought about picking up a MBR 844c for general Texas rigs and jigs

I have several GLX MBR’s and prefer them to the NRX.  I just land more fish with the MBR flex.  They really shine for moving baits

i have never used either, but I do know that a lot of people don't like recoil guides which are found on the NRX, but not the GLX (or the Conquest)

I’ve never fished the nrx but when purchasing my glx’s, I bumped into a gentleman who was sponsored by loomis and was asking him the same question. He said for the money the glx is so close to the nrx and with so many models he didn’t find it worth spending the extra money. He and his partner sold off most of the nrx’s And replaced them with the glx. There was a few models he said that the glx couldn’t even touch the nrx and there’s no way around it but to  spend the extra money on the nrx.

X2. I don't own any GLXs or NRXs, but have fished with both, and prefer the GLX, specially the older ones.

What models of the NRX did he say were significantly better than the GLX?

The NRX 893 stands out as better than GLX by most people that have compared both.

I have an 852c, 893c, 894c and a 916 UBR. They’re so incredibly light they are hard to put down

Have had a few of both. Both incredible.

I have not fished with the newer IMX or GLX, have touched and felt them in a local tackle store and they are vastly improved over the rods 5 years ago. NRX hadn't changed since thier introduction.

You need to compare the same JWR rods, length and ratings.

If your looking to spend NRX type of money, and not going custom,  I would look at the Conquest.....they can be had for around 400.00 and is better than both

I think the GLX and the NRX are very close. I sold my GLX to buy 2 NRX rods, 1 spinning 7'1" med action ex-fast tip with a 3000 Sustain reel and 1 casting, 7'1" MH ex-fast tip with a Bantam 7.1:1 baitcast reel. I don't see a whole lot of difference but I do not regret buying the NRX, they are fantastic. I know it is a lot of money and I will probably not buy another but I would not trade them for anything. I tried a Conquest and I did not think it was worth the asking price. I am totally satisfied with my NRX rods. The rest of my rods are IMX and a bunch of E6X. If you find a Conquest for $400 buy it! They go for $650+ retail. I get a good discount on my stuff but it is still expensive.

He was saying the one that stood out the absolute most was the 893c. The 852c was one, and there was 1 more and can’t recall. He said he preferred the 894 in the glx way over the nrx.

And also mentioned the conquest was a really nice rod but not even remotely worth the money over the nrx or glx. If it was closer in price maybe but not almost 1 and 3/4 the price of the nrx or glx’s

the nrx 893 will be my next loomis I think, that or a glx mbr taper

I've never had a GLX so can't really comment on it's performance, other than the one that roadmaster allowed me to use once was outstanding.

Now I do own an NRX 803C paired with a Shimano Core and a G. Loomis IMX MBR 843C paired with a Curado 200E7. I have to say I prefer my IMX for jigs and bottom contact lures, to the NRX. It just seems like I get a crisper feel for things from the IMX with that kind of lure. Now, I prefer my NRX for all things Texas/Florida rigged and is really my dedicated soft plastic setup.
