Hey all, this is my first post and I need the help from all the reel and shimano junkies out there,  recently bought this shimano reel as a fishing challenge. I didn’t do any looking into for this reel and since buying it I haven’t been able to find much about it. I was wondering if anyone has used one or owns one and could tell me anything about it, it’s a Shimano scorpion metanium XT. From all I could find I guess it was made from 99-04.

Yep, a JDM reel and they still make them.

Definitely an overseas model

Should be a fine piece of kit IMHO. I have a JDM Scorpion DC that I love.

It is the Japanese version of the Chronarch 100SF.  I have one that is essentially NIB.  They were a great reel at the time and still are today.  Find an old school G. Loomis MBR and match it up and you should be in business!

Thanks y’all for the help, after playing around with it I think I’m going to put new bearings in it and use it as more of a finesse reel, personality I found it casted better with 12 pound fluorocarbon. Anyone have any suggestions for bearing to use?

 You could contact Boca Bearings directly to be sure but I believe they take the 3 x 10 x 4.  I like the ABEC 7's (non orange seal). 

I'll bet the original bearings are as smooth as anything you can buy. Just soak them in some thinner or acetone and re-oil. That reel is a great caster but wouldn't be great under 1/4 oz. no matter what bearings you use.

I would do something like that but I’m a little worried about the anti-reverse bearing. It slips a little when I jerk it after fixing a backlash, I mean best answer is not to backlash  but it still worry’s me a little. 

I was referring to spool bearings.  Never soak an AR bearing in acetone. Yours has either been over lubed at some point or is in need of replacing. Try soaking it in Simple Green first and let it dry. Very lightly rub an oiled Q-Tip around the inside. If it still slips, change it.  Not sure the part # but it probably cross references  with several B platform reels of the same time including US stuff.  Google Ole Dad's Tackle in Conroe TX and give them a call. They stock a lot of older parts for Shimano.
