Can I use 12 pound fluorocarbon for stocked trout fishing?

Featured Replies

This week I am going to go to a local pond for some stocked trout. I am going to use power bait on a Carolina rig. For the leader can I use 12 pound fluorocarbon. The fluorocarbon I have is seaguar invisx.

You can try. If you aren't getting bit try lighter line

You can, but I probably wouldn't. You could hammer in a nail with the back of a screwdriver, but you're probably better served using a hammer.

Just kidding...Stocker trout are not picky.

If its anything Like our Kansas stocked trout, they are not the sharpest tacks in the box.

I have unintentionally caught them on nearly every bass bait available, on line up to 20lb copoly

Little bit different presentation but I use 16# FC and jerkbait for this stocked trout.

6 lb mono #6 bait holder hook, small split shot.  Have fun.

Go buy some inexpensive mono to use for leader if need be. The biggest problem you're going to have is trout do not like to eat baits off the bottom and your powerbait is not going to float with a fluoro leader. You can buy a filler spool for Stren or Trilene for less than $5 at WalMart in 6# and you'll be good to go.

Seems the lighter the better with trout. 2 pound is just a mess and I refuse to go below 4 any more.
