Have any of yall ever used the st croix bass x or mojo bass casting rods? I am interested in St Croix, I have never used their rods but have heard good things about them. I am focused on the Bass X and Mojo Bass rods. I have heard mixed reviews about the Bass X. I have heard that it is an upgraded Mojo Bass, and I have heard that it is just a lower quality Mojo Bass. Have any of y'all used these rods and can tell me anything about them?

Bass X is made of the SC2 blanks that the old Mojo Bass used to be made of.  The old Mojo Bass used the be called something else (I think).  The current Mojo Bass use SC3 blanks, and academically should be a little lighter and more sensitive.

I have never owned a Mojo Bass rod but they seem to have a good rep.

I have had 2 Bass X rods.  I still have 1 and regret returning the other.  There is nothing ground breaking about them, but IMO totally decent rods.  If I ever need another cranking rod I'll likely buy the medium heavy moderate version that I foolishly returned.

Still use the 7'4" med heavy mod fast for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, big crank baits, and buzz baits.  Excellent rod for that stuff.

I bought my son the St. Croix Spinnerbait rod, which is MH/MF. It's very light and it has a very good blank -- same blank as the more expensive Avid and Avid X rods! I picked up the 6'8 topwater M/XF rod for next season as well, but haven't got to use it yet. I haven't actually got my hands on a Bass X rod yet so I can't comment on those, but the Mojo Bass seems to be priced very right for the quality of the rod.

One piece of advice when picking a Mojo Bass rod is generally, the St. Croix rods tend to run heavy in power, but tend to not have a lot of tip. So in short, should you plan on using it for jigs and spinnerbaits and are torn between the MH/MF spinnerbait rod and the MH/F Jigs n bait rod, get the jig n bait rod as that has much more tip to it to really wench them out of cover. The good thing is if you have a decent Dick's sporting goods in your area, they may have most of the lineup in stock so you can get your hands on them yourself.

The Mojo is built on the better blank and the guides and reel seat are the same on both rods. They seem to be essentially the same rod built on different blanks. They do have a few different models though.

If it is important to save $20-$40 the then Bass X will be a good rod. It is basically the same as the previous generation Mojo which a lot of people really liked. The Mojo is the better rod though.

Dick’s has a $20 off $100 on their website right now. I might get a Mojo rod today after stopping by to check it out.

For the price range you're looking at I'd do some research and compare Dobyns Fury and St Croix Mojo in the size and power you are looking for.

I have a dobyns fury and love it. I will probably go to Cabelas today and look at them both.

I tried buying a different St. Croix today from Dicks and it says they are excluded from this promo. ☹️

Hmmm, just bought my Mojo Bass this afternoon from them. I used the coupon from their home page (it links to the in-store version of the coupon and saved it to my cell phone). Maybe you can try to buy it online and use the coupon and pick up in store.

Sorry I didn't understand that. Did you print out the in-store coupon and use it online or in-store? I am trying to buy a rod they don't carry in store.  did you get it to work online?

No, I bought mine in the store. I was on the website and saw their $20/ off $100 promotion and saved the "View In-Store Coupon." I think I saved a screenshot as an image in my phone and showed it to them during checkout.

I do see the exclusion of St. Croix rods listed on their website so am not sure why my in-store purchaser went through. Either the computer didn't flag it or maybe because it was a 'St. Croix Mojo' line or maybe the cashier forced it through.  I do know their cashiers have fairly wide latitude to help with discounts/coupons. And if they can't they often call over a manager to help. At least that has been my experience.

I only see a couple of the Mojo Bass rods on their website, not all the ones that my store had in stock. I bought a 6' 8" one, I think MH/F.

Good luck. That coupon expires today if you were thinking of still trying to get it applied.

I copped the mojo 7'1 medium fast casting rod.  It seems pretty sensitive compared to my Abu Garcia Veritas medium heavy, and that's what I wanted. I was able to bid on eBay and got it for $115.

That's a pretty nice upgrade you got yourself there. Enjoy.

Thanks. Some cashiers have done an override for me in store in the past. None of my local stores carry St.Croix so I was trying to figure out a way to use it online to pick up a travel rod. Oh well. I appreciate the explanation. Enjoy the Mojo Bass!

St.Croix is my go-to rods/blanks. I notice their ratings for their rods are rated differently than other rod companies. For example their MH's are other company's Heavy. St.Croix Medium Heavy's are rated for up to 1oz weights, while a company like G.Loomis their MH is only rated up to 3/4oz weights. I also notice St.Croix rods are a bit stouter and have more backbone. They're also slightly heavier in terms of rod weight.

If you go with St.Croix and you want an MH action rod, I would go with a Medium.
