Crankbaits -- Am I missing anything important?

Featured Replies

Prior to this year, I've used mostly soft plastics.

This year, I found a small lake in which crankbaits and spinnerbaits seem to work best, so I dug some out of the "big tackle box."

Should I add anything to this? I'll be fishing mainly from shore, until/unless I find it's OK to launch a boat, then I might buy a canoe. No way I could launch a full-sized boat there.

Regards,

Josh

Maybe a couple lipless cranks - one in a medium-natural color (bluegill, perch, baby bass - base it on what forage is available in the lake), and one in a bright color.

I would say most of the time those Deep Manns Pigs would be difficult to fish from shore . You have some good classic baits . Those MudBugs are good at about 5 to 7   foot and that Baby Bass wee R is a good bait too . I would be afraid to throw those old baits from shore  because they snag up , they are difficult to retrieve .

Perhaps a couple of rattle / lipless baits.

Also a squarebill runs shallow making it shore fishing friendly.

Good Luck

Top right, the white one, is that an Excalibur? Fat Free Shad?

Thanks! I have those in with the spoons. I dunno why, but I think they go with spoons more than with lipped crankbaits. Weird, right?

There's a FF Shad in there, as well as an Excalibur, yessir. The white one is a FF Shad.

I agree that those deep runners are going to be difficult, and probably short lived, if you fish them from the bank.

Squarebills, lipless, and mid depth baits are your best options from shore.

I'd also add a couple craw colors in there. When I fished from shore more often, I always did well bumping a craw colored bait through rocky banks.
