What sized wacky hooks?

Featured Replies

I haven't wacky rigged a whole lot, the few times I've attempted it it's been with 2/0 octopus hooks with either a 4 inch Roboworm Ned Worm or 5 inch Senko. Would that size be fine? What does everyone else use?

I stick fish fine with those hooks when nose-hooking flukes, but for whatever reason I think they look too small with stick worms.

I use a Gamakatsu 1/0 circle hook.  Good hookup rate and rarely gut hook a fish.

Gamakatsu B10 Stinger. It's not a hook that was originally intended for bass fishing, but several Gamakatsu Pros discovered it to be an excellent wacky and neko rig hook. I concur with them. I use #1 and 1/0

2/0 is ok, I have some Gamakatsu Finesse Wide Gap in that

size, though it isn't my favorite. My experience has found that

1 and 1/0 are the sweet spots - in my waters, and for my

preferred 4" stick worm.

Each size hook will affect the fall rate of the worm, at least a

little.

Oh, and FWIW (and another "in my experience") octopus hooks

tend to gut hook more frequently. Though they also stick a

little more (i.e., they work!) because the hook is offset from the

shank/eye.

I like owner mosquito lites in size 1 for wacky rigging and drop shotting (nose hook). I like a tiny hook because the wacky rig will turn hook-eye down with heavier hooks on the drop, but with those little mosquito lites they gently shimmy the whole way down, hook-eye up. For me the wacky rig is all about the shimmy.
