when to use trailers on jigs and spinners?

Featured Replies

For me always on jigs and chatterbait and never on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.

The trailer adds live like movements and profile to most jigs but not mandatory.

Same with spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits  and buzzbaits.

I always use a trailer on a jig, usually use a trailer for a chatter bait, and use trailer hooks for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits

Always on jigs/swim jigs/bladed jigs, sometimes on spinnerbaits, never on buzzbaits but I don't fish them much anymore.

Always on jigs and chatterbaits. Put a Havoc Pit Boss on a chatterbait and it has more action than a $20 hooker on a Friday night. In the spring I put a white paddle tail on a white spinnerbait and that performs better than a plain old spinnerbait that time of year.

Jigs and chatterbait I always add one. Spinnerbaits I occasionally will if I want to bulk up the profile or get them to stop just slapping the blades and commit to the hook.

I tried to throw a chatterbait yesterday without a trailer because the pickerel kept biting off the tails of the Zako's but it just didn't feel right and the action seemed off - I then realized I had never thrown them without trailers.

For jigs, 100% of the time.

Spinnerbaits it's about 50/50.

Always on a jig , seldom on a spinnerbait . Buzzbaits I have been removing the skirt and gluing on swim baits .
