Reservations are in . The wife and I be spending  a week at  LOZ second week of October . Have a cottage up the Little Niangua .  I'm not going to   study or anything . Just show up and go fishing . I seem to have better success that way . I havent fished there in almost forty years . If the weather is nice we may stay longer . 

I hope you have a good trip.  Most of the man killer boats should be gone by then.

Thats why I'm staying up the little Niangua , hoping to find some less congested  areas . 

I'm leaving  in one week .. If bass are moving in the back of coves ,I'm thinking I need to make a special lake of the Ozarks spinnerbait . Maybe painted white blades .

Last time I was there, they were really chewing a white one with copper blades. That bait was catching probably 5 to 1 more than a bait with silver or gold blades and all of our keepers.

Good info . I have some copper blades , I'll assemble a couple .

Done and done.  #4 copper willow and   #4 copper colorado on a 1/2 ounce bait and white skirt . I spread the blades apart some to make it a speed lure . 

We have a place down there.  Last week I had a tough time finding them.  Ended up catching a bunch, but i had to downsize to ned rigs.  I wont give away my specific spots but I'll say I was finding small keepers relatively shallow off secondary points.  May be different by the time you're there.

I'm just going to go down and wing it . Last year I went to Table Rock for a week , watched fishing report videos , studied maps ... When I got there instead of doing things my way I tried these other tactics and it just didnt work . I dont want any pre-conceived ideas ,I'll play it be ear. I do better that way .

I never do as good trying to follow the bite that everyone else is on as if I would just do what I'm good at doing.

Man , I struggle at  dock  fishing . Today was the first  day here and I caught ten bass . Only one was over fifteen inches . It  was a three lber caught 20 foot deep on a point . The back end of coves are full of shad but the only thing  I caught there were dinks . I'm in the Little Niangua . Tomorrow I'm  heading upstream and fish some shallower water and docks .

Probably shad everywhere right now, but if they aren't those big gizzard shad, there won't be any big fish by them at LOZ. You have to find those 5-6 inch or bigger gizzard shad down there to find the big bass in the fall.

I went and tried shallow water and docks this morning and blanked . Fished some deep points and blanked . Went around the bend of one point and caught a dink . A few minutes later I hooked into a big fish . I thought it was a catfish . Got it to the boat and it was a  bass . I went to lip her she jumped and threw the Jelly worm . That was it . I'll try again tomorrow , weather permitting . 

 

That bass was 6 to 7 lbs and I was thinking , got to get a picture of this to post on Bass resource . LOL

Didnt fish yesterday . Got five inches of rain . Now its 40 degrees , still raining . Maybe Ill get out this afternoon .

Well , its over . Didnt tear them up but caught fish every day with a few keepers . Got five inches of rain one day and the next day it was cold and windy . Didnt fish those two days . Everyday was different . One day worms , one day swim baits , one day a Rapala FatRap , and the last day  jigs on docks .

@scaleface, I missed this thread until now.  Sounds like you did alright.  I have to agree with you and Blue that chasing reports can be problematic.  We all have our own way of doing things.  I will watch reports to get an idea what the fish are doing and where they may be located as a starting point to find them.  I do the rest my way.  

I'm back this October up in the Little Niangua arm . Fished a few hours yesterday afternoon up river insome shallow water . Only caught three small ones . Found a deep 25 foot brush pile with fish signals all over it [crappie?] close to the cabin. I'll  try that today then head down lake .I guess I'll just dock fish . Thats the only option I see . 

A couple of my friends fished a tournament there last weekend. They had 15lbs the first day for 2nd place. Next day they only found 1 keeper and still ended up in 3rd. Sounds like pretty tough fishing to me. I imagine the BBB being not long ago probably isn't helping things.

yeah its tough . I caught five yesterday  with two keepers . The bass are tentative . Just flashing on the baits .The ones I have caught were barely hooked .

A little too late, but the white bass are plentiful that time of year, they will get right on the banks of wind blown points on main lake and in the creeks, , I preferably like finding them in the creeks and hook up with some hybrids while fishing for whites. Get rid of that red meat and you have some real good table fare

It's a big lake, and they'll be out on the deeper brush piles this time of year.  Good luck.

Problem with that is I dont know where deeper brush piles are . If I did I'd be all over them . I had engine issues so stayed in the little Niangua the whole time . Didnt catch  anything big but caught fish with 6 keepers .The only lure I could get the bass to commit on the whole week was a crankbait .   Old boat ramps were the most consistent spots I found .

I caught a few whites . Way up the Little Niangua there was a flat so shallow that I couldnt reach it from any direction . The gulls were dive bombing there , so I figure whites had the shad corralled but I could not get to them .
