Does anybody here cast Hot n Tots for bass? I am wanting to build me a collection of these to keep and use. Either the pre Rapala or post I think I will buy whatever I find used. I saw a guy on YouTube (super strike) bend the metal bill and used them as a top water twitch bait or perhaps a wake bait. I have one of the newer plastic billed lures I was given about 15 years ago but have never tried it. 

As I recall the Storm Hot n Tot was a sinking lure used mostly in the 70's in Puget Sound area trolling for salmon and steelhead. Bass will strike nearly anything that looks like prey.

A voracious predator indeed Tom. i just looked it up and Storm lures began in 1964, I had no idea Storm had been in business that long. I'll be just as satisfied with Hot n Tots as Salmon getters as I would be as bass grabbers, if they never leave the tackle box it won't matter lol

They're popular walleye trolling baits here. I've tried casting them for bass and never had any luck.

I have caught a lot of smallies & walleye on hot & tots. They float but have a metal bill for diving. Basically a crank bait. What makes them so unique is that they hunt when trolled. They dart left then right very erratically hence the term hunt. They dive around 15-17 feet deep on 10 lb braid. Their erratic action makes them a great search bait for smallies either casting or trolling. 

We always used them trolling for walleye and occasionally hooked a smallie. 

I use them like a crankbait, usually targeting 11-14' LMB.  I Pretty much only think about throwing them on sunny days.  The hunt is good and the bill flash is a bonus, even at depth.

I have not tried using them but I would imagine they would be good smallie lures. Usually walleye lures also make decent smallie lures.
