Old High End vs New Mid-Level Rods ( Daiwa Steez )

Featured Replies

Just curious how old tech has held up the past 10 years or so, specifically with the Daiwa Steez thats on sale at TW today.

Assuming the price drops sub 300, makes me wonder how this holds up with modern day offerings by megabass and the like in this price range.

Anyone have thoughts on the matter?

Too bad it's a med heavy and not a medium. Great technology and performance but pricey.

Wasn’t really all that interested. Just wanted to know what made the rod worth that kind of money 10 years ago. Seems like most of what was offered in it that was “premium” at the time, such as the titanium guides, the light weight, and the sensitivity ratings are common place in much cheaper rods today. I’d be hesitant to buy anything that’s been updated twice without a very deep discount.

The most expensive bass fishing rod I own and still use is Fenwick Techna AV that cost $300 in early 90's. The reels were Daiwa TD HTSA 103 that cost $175 in the early 90's.

Light weight high tech even by today's bench mark.

"that cost $300 in early 90's."

Using an inflation calculator, that's around $540 today. But I was still poor back then.
