Aftco Hydronaut or Simms ProDry

Howdy Folks,

A group of us are looking to get a retiring friend some high end rain-gear and it is between the Aftco and Simms.

I have no experience with either and am looking for some input.

Any thoughts are appreciated and yes I know it is expensive stuff.

Well, I have Cabela's Guidewear that I consider "The Cat's Meow".:santa-107:

I would go with the Simms. 3-layer fabric with the Gore-Tex lining.  I believe the hydronaut is only a 2 layer fabric. The Simms will also be way lighter.

Simms all the way.  I have both the insulated and non-insulated versions.  Very comfortable and dry (like they should be), but also have a number of "little" things that make them "fishing gear" rather than just "rain gear", such as angled cuffs with velcro, reinforced heels (which can be adjusted so they don't drag on the ground), and cinching cords that actually work (!).  They don't bind when moving around either.

Just looked at Glenn’s link. Holy cow you’re a Great Friend!!

There is a group of us going in on this and he has wanted GREAT rain gear for a decade

The AFTCO Hydronaut suit is worth every penny. We had scored the Simms Transom but the fit wasn't quite right. Ordered the AFTCO and then proceeded to order two more sets. It a solid suit and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

My brother and I fished in Mountain Home AR yesterday in an all-day rainstorm. My ‘waterproof’ Cabelas duck hunting jacket and bibs leaked after an hour or so.  His BassPro 100 mph suit didn’t leak at all. I’d buy it, but hate to be a walking ad for BassPro.  Is the AFTCO Hydronaut suit as waterproof as the BassPro Goretex suit? I’m talking about all-day rain.
