Spring A-Rig

Featured Replies

Looking at possibly getting more into throwing an A-Rig this spring.  Biggest question for me is if it's necessary that I have a leader for this bait.  I'm thinking I would like to throw it on straight braid, however, many others online are using a mono/copoly leader.  I'm going to be targeting smaller bodies of water and from shore, any other possible tips to help me out in being more successful with this rig would be awesome.  Thanks

I tried it on 20lb Mono and went back to 65lb Braid with no leader. I have some 16lb Sniper I was thinking about trying.

 I tried 50 & 65 lb braid, 20 lb mono and 17 & 20 lb FC.

All said & done, 20lb Seaguar InvisX or Tatsu gets the nod.

That's for green & brown bass.

Can't see the need for a leader on the braid when there's a giant wire chandelier attached to the end of it.

Exactly!  I threw it on braid for a long time with no issues and caught plenty.  I've started throwing it on 20 lb fluoro simply because I also throw bigger swimbaits on the same reel. If the wire and hooks dont scare em away I seriously doubt the braid will

It seems like unless the water is gin clear, which it that case I probably wouldn't even be throwing an a-rig, they don't seem to mind the braid at all. I've always thrown my a-rigs on braid and I don't think I would have different results with floro from what I've heard from other guys. Plus I just like having the peace of mind of knowing 80lb braid won't break when I'm throwing some $40 rigs.

Appreciate everything I’ve gotten from everyone so far. Anxious to really throw this thing as spring arrives.  I know guys use a ton of different plastic swimbaits on it but what does everyone prefer? Guys love the Keitechs and I agree, they are fantastic but is there anything out there that maybe is a little cheaper that guys have had a lot of success on?

I've had success on Strike King Rage Swimmers--I haven't fished an A-rig but as a swimjig and chatterbait trailer they've produced well. A couple bucks cheaper per pack.

We have lots of rocks and wood.  A rigs get hung in them a lot so I always throw them on braid.  I have tried lots of baits and have caught more fish on flukes than any thing else.

Regular flukes or paddle tail?
