Always Wear Your PFD and Have Cushions on Deck

A real sad story. Yes, it happens in a fishing boat at night but the message is clear:

ALWAYS WEAR YOUR PFD WHILE ON THE WATER AND HAVE CUSHIONS ON YOUR BASS BOAT'S DECK AT ALL TIMES.

While night fishing on Lake Fayette in Texas, a fishing boat carrying five anglers began taking on water on the way back to the boat ramp. According to a survivor, the boat quickly capsized and all of the anglers went into the chilly waters. Two were able to swim to shore, but the other three men drowned. A survivor also told Texas Parks and Wildlife that there were no life jackets anywhere on the boat.

Texas Parks and Wildlife says all of the men on the boat were between 40 to 50 years old. Bastrop County Game Warden Sonny Alaniz reports that side-scan technology was used to locate all three of the deceased anglers in addition to the sunken boat.

Please let this serve as a reminder to always have your life jackets on board and accessible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the anglers.

Sounds like the boat didn't meet USCG flotation requirements either.  It's a shame, and sad for the families.  This is why we have certain regulations in place.  It's for times when common sense becomes uncommon.  So sad for their families.

Sounds like there was a severe lack of preparation on that boat. I can understand not wearing them but didn't even have any on board? No excuse for that.

40 to 50 years old. That's old enough to know better than to not atleast having pfd's on board.

Makes me wonder how much they'd had to drink. So many things wrong with that whole event from the minute they put the boat in the water without PFD's to the sad end.
