Hey guys and gals, 

just moved to Maryland. I’ve been fishing my whole life. Mostly family oriented as a hobby. I love bass and crappie fishing on Lake fork in Texas where I’m from. For the last 5 years I grew a lot in the sport of fishing due to my summer job as a first mate on private charters and head boats on Lake Erie fishing for walleye and yellow perch. Met a lot of people who taught me a lot about the sport and allowed me to countless hours on the water to learn myself. I fished walleye tournaments for my last two years there and it was a blast. While I am here might as well get a line wet on occasion and learn a few things. Mostly going to focus on Bass fishing, although I might look to the Potomac or a reservoir for some walleye occasionally. Thanks for having me

Look into fishing for stipers in the bay. This is what Maryland has over other fisheries.

Looking at the regulations for 2020, it would seem we are running out of stripers, all of April is now closed for everything, even catch and release. 

Welcome @Cook296649.  Walleye are definitely the fish of 10,000 cast or more around here; around the confluence of the North and South Fork of the Shenandoah is a good bet close by, along with the main stem.  The Potomac is huge, but somehow can still be crowded.  The smallmouth in the upper has fallen off the last few years, but the largemouth in the tidal part (below Little Falls) is still strong.  Lot's of DC-area folks on this forum.

As for bass fishing in the greater Bethesda area, I have no idea. I know some of the country clubs have golf course ponds but they are off limits.

 

If you have a boat and can trailer it, head down to Leesylvania State Park and go out on the Potomac. Or, if you want to drive farther down into Virginia you can go to Willow or Hope Springs Marinas east of Stafford.

In any case, go to this site and find maps of the Potomac,Tidal Potomac, Virginia and Maryland fisheries:

You will need paper maps to find the ramps and places to fish.

 

Virginia has some nice rivers you can fish plus One Fish Anna west of Fredericksburg. Get a copy of the 2020 Virginia Freshwater Fishing and Boating booklet (its free) and note the places you can go fishing. 

 

Now your next challenge is to find a double secret pathway to and from work to avoid the beltway.

Welcome...Lake Fork and Lake Erie are tough acts to follow, but the fishing in this is area is still pretty good - Especially if you're willing to drive a bit .

 

For walleye, your best bet is to head to Deep Creek Lake in western MD, I don't know how good it is compared to other good walleye fisheries but in my opinion and experience it's pretty darn good....I catch a ton of them there while bass fishing - So a real walleye fisherman should do pretty well.  

 

Might want to check out some local clubs - If so, I know of a pretty good one .

Enjoy some blue crab for me! I went to Baltimore in 2006 and have always wanted to go back just for some blue crab if nothing else.

For walleye just fish below any of the dams on the Upper Potomac.
