Your Bank Fishing PB?

Featured Replies

I'm just happy to get any bass off shore. I don't carry a scale with me but guess that my "typical" artificial baited bass runs about 2 lbs give or take. I boat fish when at Black Lake but, except when going for salmon via a charter on Lake Ontario, I am a bank fisherman. I find the success of bank fishing a bit more challenging and a lot more accommodating. Just put rods/reels and gear in the truck and go. But it can also be very discouraging; namely 5x out this year and no fish.

5 lbs even at the lake outside a hotel we were staying at in Florida, on a 6" Berkley plastic worm (I forget which model).  My wife was nervous that I was fishing from shore because of the beware of alligator signs.

I did hook up with a much larger one at a pond at my sisters house in Georgia on a Ned Rig.  I had caught multiple stunted bass from there, so I was using 8lb test on a pretty light rod when the queen of the pond showed up.  I had no chance of steering her; after she showed her massive head, she made a beeline for a brushpile and broke me off once she was inside.  I have yet to hook up with her again despite my efforts every time I visit my sister.

5 lb 4 oz on a senko.  Caught it around a coontail mat on the surface.

6-3 23.5"on a 4" senko

I live in Ohio and this is my second season fishing.  Don't have a boat, so only fish from the bank.  Last year (2019) I caught a 5lb largemouth on a Teckle Sprinker Frog.  I did a little cheating this year, went to visit mom & dad in Florida.  While there I caught a 5.5 pounder on a River2Sea Whopper Plopper and the new PB 6.39lb on a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver.

I have calculated numbers for my biggest bank bass. She made my also bank caught 9.9 lber look short and petite.

5-ish on a white Hart Throb buzzbait. There has been a 10 pounder taken from the same pond. It's a place owned by my buddy's father-in-law. He doesn't mind me going whenever I want, but he won't allow me to use my kayak. That's a travesty because it's full of flooded timber that I could ply with a jig or monster worm. My buddy says it's for liability reasons, which I fully understand. I would sign a waiver. In fact, I've told my wife not to sue should I die fishing private property. It's my choice and they're doing me a favor. There's another downside to this pond. The road into it goes right through an old man's yard and he's somehow ALWAYS outside. So he assumes you're there to see him. He talks your ear off on the way in and out. He tells me 5 times each way the fish won't bite there when the wind's blowing.

I know that you're a man of integrity. 95% of fishermen would round that bass to 10.0.

Here's the 9.9 lber. The bass pictured above is larger.

I was thinking 9.9 lbs. If I read that right it's 9 lb 9 oz. No way to round that far.

my best from bank fishing are 6.4  7  8 and 9 pounder large mouth bass.  caught in n.y. state in the past 5 years.
