Just to give some context, I pretty much "inherited" all of my dad's tackle as he isn't as passionate about fishing as he used to be and he only goes out with me anyways. A lot of the lures are from the 90s and early 00s. I've had these in put away for a few years and today I was just doing some tackle organization as I have all this free time. All I know is they were made by Berkley quite a while ago and they had a whole "sqwormers" lineup. Anyone have experience or good memories with these baits? I've always been fascinated by bass fishing of the past as all the popular lures and techniques couldn't be easily documented on the internet like today.

 

So, I really like the color (actually my favorite combination ?) and I wouldn't want these to go to waste. They're awkward to rig as they're quite long and really skinny. I have them pictured below next to a 3/0 EWG for reference. I tried texas rigging it and it just feels awkward since the bait is so thin and long. 

 

Anyways, how would you guys rig it? Cut em in half and use them as a finesse jig trailer? I think they'd look real good neko rigged too...let me know

They way it is on the jig look pretty good or just plain Texas rig.

I have yet to catch a bass on a craw lure, or a skirted jig for that matter. What is good about that craw being thin and long I dont understand? Everything I have been reading points towards trimming that thing down and rigging it on a skirted jig.

I only have EWGs at the moment, forgot to mention that. It can still be done but I think a round bend worm hook would better suit a bait like this, since it’s so thin.

I have caught hundreds of bass on a Texas rigged  thin and long crawdad . The Larew Salt Craw and the Wal Mart brand  Renegade craw to name a couple . 

I might snip a section or two off the tail, and use them as a jig trailer, or T-rig them.  I might also do a Neko rig, with the weight in the tail.  A little tip for that: bury a CPS pin in the spot where you'll hook it, and run the hook through the pin.  It helps add durability.

I would trim that little tail part off too   and Texas rig them with an offset hook . I also  like that color  .  Some crawdads have bright orange pincers .I have never used that particular lure but its a good looking bait . 

I would Texas rig those.

Been fishing since the 70's and never heard of them but they certainly look enticing. 

I'd have no problem throwing them Texas. 

Sqwormers were decent Berkley baits.  No clue why they were discontinued, but you can say that about a lot of Berkley baits.   I still miss the Pulse worms and the Bungee worms and when they marked their version of the Brush Hog in many different colors.

You could also rig them on a ball head jig and run them like a jigworm in sparse weedbeds. Ripping jigworms through cabbage has caught a ton of bass for me over the years, and a craw like that would work well in that circumstance. 

@Way north bass guy has a great point.  I believe a jig worm has the point exposed, I would be more apt to rigging them on a shakyhead.

The bait looks just like the zoom critter craw. Its a good bait, makes a good jig trailer, also good on a texas rig, light c-rig, or on a shaky head as suggested.

 

It has a nice slow glide when it falls, I tend to use them in clear water and lighter line most of the time but they will catch fish. I love the fire claws in both orange like you have, and the blue....

I remembered why I got Brewer Slider head, to be able to use with 3” big bite bait craw. Not sure how long is Sqwormers (5”?) I think it might work well with slider jig head hoping around as well.
