I want to buy a new trout reel but I have no clue what to buy, what makes a trout reel a trout reel, what is the best brand, stuff like that. If you guys could help it would be amazing.

Shimano Sahara 1000 reel

Daiwa certate 2000.  If you can find one a sol or advantage is also nice. 

It's only a trout reel if you catch trout on it. The fish don't know the difference if it was designed for bass or trout or walleye. Typically the lighter presentation the better for trout. There is no real best brand, but Shimano and Daiwa are the main players. They have reels from $20 to several hundred, or even thousands for some applications. You'd need a lot more details like budget, where and how you'll be fishing, etc.

I use two reels on COMPLETE opposite ends of the price spectrum to catch trout.

 

An aldebaran 50hg and a sienna 1000 (when it’s not a fly rod...that’s a whole other story). They’ve both caught trout quite handily.

I won’t go into detail about fly fishing...there are entire forums dedicated to it...but I will say that if you find that you like catching trout, it’s worth your time. It’s a whole different type of reward and the learning curve isn’t nearly as steep as you think. I can do it and I’m a blithering moron.

I’m an avid trout fisherman. I troll from my kayak for them to bank fish using small jigs to creek fish. Over the years, these have been my favorite trout reels

Budget - Pflueger President 25 series 

 

Mid- Level- Pflueger Supreme 25 or 30 series. I love this reel and eventually making all of my spinning reels a Supreme. 
 

Personally, to catch nice trout, you do not need an expensive reel, like the Cadillac of all spinning reels, the Shimano Stradic C i4.
 

For $100 I think you will be very happy with a Supreme. For $50, The President is hard to beat. Good luck!

A Stella 1000 is WAY MORE FUN!

 

Any spinning reel, size really doesn't matter to me. You don't need the small size ones, in fact I prefer a 25 or 30 size reel over a 10 or "1000". The bigger spool slows down the inevitable line twist and picks up line faster. Just get a Shimano, Daiwa, Pfluger, or even Abu and spend at least $40 and you will get a quality product. No need to spend a ton of money IMO.
