Daiwa Coastal SV TW

Featured Replies

What are your thoughts on this reel? Would you recommend it?

I found it for a pretty good price, and was thinking of pairing it with a 7'4" mh/f rod (yes, the St. Croix LTB I just made a thread on) for jigs, t-rigs, c-rigs, etc.

This would be my first Daiwa reel, so I know little about all their models and performance as of now. Any shared knowledge on the Coastal SV TW, will be appreciated!

Read through this thread, some good info on the coastal for ya.

I fished mine (bass) all day Saturday on a 6’10 MH/F Tatula. 15lb Floro, with the spool half full of mono as filler.

Weightless 5.5” Senkos, Spinner, and even swapped it onto another rod and threw a crank with it for a few.

Flawless.

Smooth, casts plenty far, and is really forgiving in the wind. Do I need the large capacity spool? Nah. But it doesn’t seem to hurt anything. The reel just looks so sharp too. It looks “expensive” to me.

if I had ONE gripe, it’s that my drag seems a little “all or nothing”. But it works fine.

I really want to buy another.

This is pretty much what I've found as well. I don't know if it shines in any one place, but it seems to do everything really good. I changed mine from a 1/2oz squarebill to a spinnerbait and never changed tension or brakes. It's definitely stress free performance. I cleaned mine the day it came in and the drag was pretty dry. I put some cals on it and it seems to be pretty smooth. Unfortunately, I can't compare it to out of box because I never fished it that way.

I should prob put some Cals on it.
It’s just kind of ... not enough drag, not enough drag, then boom, it’s basically full drag.

And I never moved the brake more than a click or two all day. It just kind of works.

I haven't seen it anywhere, but it may have the ATD system. That's Daiwa's fancy drag that is supposed to help protect light line with an easier startup.

I’ve had mine out 3 times since I got it 2 weeks ago. Only thrown a 1/2 ounce lipless crankbait on it so far. It’s a really smooth reel and I’m getting good casting distance. You can’t go wrong with the Coastal SV.

I have used mine several times, I am very impressed...might get another.  It casts well, even with lighter lures.  I threw a weightless super fluke with it, no problem.

It's from an SV103 (OG Zillion platform).

I probably need to talk to you about spools sometime.

I can make any spacers or parts needed... but don't know what spools would work well in the reel or where to get them.

Probably won't be your last.  I have 10 brands, but more Daiwas then any other...by a lot.  Yet there are so many models I still don't have.  The Coastal SV is one I don't have.  Lots of aftermarket parts for Daiwas if you want to experiment or bling out a reel.

Okay.  It is officially your fault.  I just popped over to Sportsman's Outfitters and picked up one at the sale price.  Don't forget the code for an extra $5 off.  :teeth:

 You’re not gonna regret it.

Im trying very hard for mine not to do the same ? I have absolutely no need for another one, but the thought keeps creeping into my head.

$175 for a $250 reel is hard to pass up.  The thought will keep creeping...and growing bigger.  :teeth:
