Terminal tackle storage for smaller pieces?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've been trying to find a box that fits tightly to the top so that small things like 000 snaps don't move to different compartments. I have tried a few plano models but they all failed with the 000 snaps and cultiva s-55 hooks. Any recomendations?

The ice box seems good but any reviews before I purchase?

thanks.

Instead of dropping a lot of money on a box to potentially solve the issue, perhaps you could try these little medicine bags instead to hold the smaller items. A 50 or 100 pack, don’t remember which, is under 4 bucks at Walmart and Walgreens. Bag is next to a quarter to give you an idea of the size.

while boxes like Bass Mafia and the Edge series are cool, these bags could let you spend the extra cash on tackle instead of a 50$ box;)

My Edge box still allows sz 1 Mosquito Lights to jump containers.  Ice box does as well.

very nice. I would but I need to store a lot of different types of "trout" products in one box. This is because i'm fishing a river and time is money. Pretty cool idea though. Maybe i'll try. Thanks

Alright thanks for the heads up.

The Plano edge box is a great solution. I’ve also used little ziploc bags my jigs come in, since they are easier or open and seal than original packaging.

I have seen people put that cushiony material for kitchen cupboards on the lids of boxes to keep what you are describing from happening, this includes on Bass Mafia boxes. From what you are describing, there aren't enough of those little bins in the edge box to do what you need. Would guess you would need more and smaller boxes.

I actually use one of these to hold my snaps and split rings. It is in a bag that doesn't get tossed around, but they seem to hold stuff pretty darn well.

I just use Plymor 2"x2" zip-top bags for small items. I get the ones with the white write-on space and use a Sharpie to mark what's in them. Then they just go into a plain 3700 ProLatch.

That may work if I put it in a Plano deep. Thanks

Super glue a magnet to the bottom of each compartment in the box. I get the rare earth ones on Amazon for 10-15 cents a piece. Your hooks won't move.

You won't lose anything if it accidentally opens either. Double sided tape works just as well as super glue.

I just picked up a Gamakatsu box that is really nice with tight tolerances.

I use this to hold my lure making components (clevis, small swivels, beads) and works great.  I'd worry about its durability if you are constantly opening the boxes or banging around, they don't seem that strong.

I also have some of the Gamakatsu G-Boxes and they are nice but the lid doesn't seal well enough to prevent small hooks from moving.

I use the Bass Mafia coffin and have had no issues with stuff moving.  I've dropped it a few times accidentally and everything stayed in the right place.  The one knock for the Bass Mafia box was it only came in the 3700 size (outside of the Ice Box), I'm intrigued with the 3500 size of the Plano edge box

It won't solve all your problems, but I always put all the snaps on one of the snaps. They come off very quckly, and are easier to get out of the compartment. As an added bonus, they don't migrate, and you can drop a couple of sizes in a single compartment without mixing.

You might try an empty tic-tac mint box. You can wrap it with a stick on label and write on that. It's easy to get something out of too.  As a bonus you get the mints.

Also people who eat those mints can save those little boxes for you. They are pretty tough.

For carrying small amounts of small terminal tackle, I use pill organizers for the drugstore. I found the ones that are circular with the latchs pointing towards the hollow center resist opening up when bouncing around in my tackle bag a lot better than the the inline ones.

Amazon doesn't recommend this box specifically for fishermen's storage of terminal tackle and fly tying components, but I sure do!

You can probably find this organizer at craft shops too.

I will hate spending the money on it, but I'm probably going to get the box @roadwarrior mentioned when it comes out in 3600 size.  I keep weights and hooks in 2 waterproof Plano boxes now, but they don't keep small things like small hooks, snaps, strips of shrink wrap, etc. separate well enough.  And since I already have the pouches for 3600 boxes under the kayak seats, the other ideas are neat, but aren't going to work for my situation.  They are some good ideas listed, though.

That's basically a pill a day box.  Nice tip!  I'll be doing something similar for my trout beads.
