Hats off to Lews customer service. They sent me some parts for a Lews Carbonfire baitcaster at no charge. It took a few emails during this covid garbage but I'm happy. I was all set to buy them. Lew's forever.

A little off topic, but is that the dicks exclusive lews baitcasting reel for $79.99? How do you like it?

Yes it's the first version. A friend of mine gave it to me. It's ok but I never would have bought one. It is fairly smooth but The spool button feels a little clunky to me.The cheapest ones I've bought are the 99 $ lfs which is a great reel at That price point. I also have Tournament Pro reels which are awesome.

One of the best if not the best at customer service. ive them called before and they shipped parts out right away for free.

Don’t ever pay $79.99 for it. It goes on sale all the time. The new version was $60 recently use a $10 off $50 spent coupon and you get a decent reel with Winn Grip knobs for $50

Lew’s customer service is top notch in my book.

My business interaction with Lews has been positive. I ordered an AR from them and got a call next day asking what went wrong. I told them the owner used it in salt water and it corroded. They said they had a more appropriate reel for that application and sent a brand new reel upgrade free.

I found one in a clearance bin at DSG for $12 (?) and I had a coupon.  Made it about $10 and so far so good.

It works just ok but for $10, you can't beat it .

Back here you raved about the Carbon Fire, compared it to the SLX now it’s just Ok. What changed your mind?

After using it about 6 times or so, it's starting to feel rough intermittently and casting slowly decreases the more I use it through out the day.  Also, the breaking has become intermittent as well.  I can generally use my thumb to avoid this so not a big deal.

At first there was no issues with this reel but in a short span of time it has started to go down hill.  Don't get me wrong though, it's still a decent reel just seems like it's not made to last.  I have also taken this reel apart and re-lubed it.  This did improve things but it still has the above issues.  For the money though, it still brings in fish.

Send it to Lews maybe you'll get a new one.

For the $10 I paid for it, it's not worth the effort or the postage.  But don't worry,  I will get some use out of it.

On the other hand...It would be nice for them to send a new reel.  I will see how it goes the rest of the year and maybe call them this fall when my fishing slows down.   Thanks for the thought....

I do not have a Lews, but that KVD reel in maroon coming out looks sweet and would match my Falcon Lowrider rod. Nice to hear they have great customer service.

Since the Carbon Fire baitcaster you have is no longer in production they might send you a comparable reel. It could be the new model with the Winn Grip knobs.

Good thought but I am not a fan of the Winn Grips.  I tend to like the old Shimano septon knobs or something like them.   I have tried them and worked on few reels with them.  I get the sense that they become slick over time but I can not completely confirm that.

I dont mind the flatter knobs that Lews uses.  I think they have them on the BB1.  Also the ones on BB1 pro might not be bad but have not fished them.

I am partial to the Lew's "Combat Grips" Basically the flat paddle knobs with some added texture for grip.

$5 for a pair
