Can You Use Split Shot Instead Of Bullet Weights?

Featured Replies

I recently got my first baitcaster (Abu Garcia Silver Max on a 7' MH) and a whole bunch of soft plastics. a few of them weigh barely anything, like the 6" lizards. The only bullet weights were tungsten weights, which were too much for my budget. Can I use a split shot instead of a bullet weight? Woud there be any way that I can turn a split shot into a bullet weight?

Thanks!

I use Gremlin rubbercore weight. Easy to attach and remove.

Nice thing about those -you can find them just about anywhere. My local BP station has a bait and tackle area - they even have tanked minnows instead of bagged ones - they carry the Bull Shot in all but the 1/64oz size.

Course it probably helps that WG is a local company...

You can use them, but they'll damage the line a bit so you're going to break your line occasionally. Check for egg sinkers, they work in a pinch if you can't find bullet weights.

Only thing I could see is that it wont come through grass as good and will probably pick up some of the cabbage on its way through. Other than that and crimping the line some, seems fine to me.

Since you’re new it seems like you need the weight but after you get to know your set up you’ll be casting weightless. I was where you are last year.

I'm not new and I very rarely, as in pretty much never, cast weightless so I'm curious why you think this?
