Universal hooks

Featured Replies

What hook and what size works for all fish and baits mainly use wacky worm. But also use night crawlers, salmon eggs ect

Pancakes.

Seriously, though, no one hook does it all.  I can't really even think of one that works for what you listed.  I guess you could try #4 gold bait hook.

It's like asking for a universal rod that can toss 1/16oz Mepps spinners as well as 5oz swimbaits...doesn't exist. My current selection of hooks is around 16 different ones, from #6 baitholders to 5/0 flipping hooks...and I know quite a few people here would probably think my selection to be 'barely adequate'.

My most used hook is a 2/0 ewg from gamakatsu.  Would that work for your purpose I think not.  In your situation I would be looking at a #1 dropshot hook.  No hook can do everything.

Was using those then when unhooking catfish I caught on senko saw how it was nearly broken in half so am going to gamukatsu or some other higher quality

maybe Owner Mosquito hooks or Gamakatsu finesse wide gaps?

I want something that big enough to prevent swallowing and small enough to get perch

4/0 or 5/0 - even a 2#-4# bass can swallow a 3/0 if they take it right. If we're talking 6#+ bass - go to a 7/0...I'm not joking, they have BIG mouths (maybe cause of the name)

#6 to 1/0 depending entirely on the size of the perch in your waters.

Ya - can't do both with the same hook size...sorry.

I know but caught a 12 in perch in the islands on senko and it swallowed it

My seasons for target fish are the following after erie canal filled -drained wacky rig for bass pike ect

for steelhead and brown trout season pre ice and ice out usually use a salmon egg

ice out if trout season is bad and i get mad i go after the perch run

april when finger lakes north ends warm up using gulp minnow for smallmouth
