Anybody throwing these? If so what are your thoughts? I'm a spinner bait junkie and I'm looking to add something different...especially for dirty water

The one I bought had more lead on one side of the head than the other, and I immediately wrote them off.  I still chuck and wind the Booyah Blades like a mad man.  I think they had a bad batch of the Covert series, because shortly after I got a blem they went on sale at academy.

 

I'll probably start buying War Eagles soon, anyway.

That's actually by design.  The offset head size is supposed to keep the bait running true all the time.  I bought a few but haven't thrown them yet.  

I really like the cheaper booyah spinnerbaits I've have great luck with them. For a pricier bait I love Nichols. I used to use strike king alot but for some reason I don't throw them near as much anymore. I know that people love war eagles and I have my share of them...my take on them is sure they catch fish but they have to be about the least durable bait made. I know there is a trade off because you want some flex to the wire to give it more vibration...but the wire shouldn't be broke loose from the head after 1 small bass. I've got some $6 booyahs that have dozens of 2-5lb bass to there credit...war eagles don't last near that long in my experience.

   Exactly my experience, too. War Eagle are one of the reasons I don't spend much money on spinnerbaits.    jj

Send them to me. That offset weight design keeps them from rolling over when you burn them. And it works like a charm too. 

 

 

To the OP, I build my own spinnerbaits and I take pride in fishing my own baits and I know for a fact that my spinnerbaits are superior to 90% of the baits on the market. With that being said, the Covert spinnerbaits are the best production spinnerbait I have EVER seen. They went on sale at one point this spring and I bought about 20 of them. The Hilldebrant blades and hardware alone on these things are worth the sale price. I will be putting my own skirts on these frames and switch around some blade configurations. They're that good.

Every time I'm throwing one and I hook one over 4 I just worry the entire time about the bait failing. That sucks.

Well call it karma..bad luck...or revenge of the fish gods. Here I was throwing shade at war eagle today for not being durable. Went out tonight throwing a booyah...hooked up on a biggun..like 5+...she comes up jumps and here comes my bait flying back at me. I think how did she come off I got a good hookup and kept nice pressure on her. Reel up and oh god its just my blades...wire broke and the head is gone.

I'm sorry fish gods...I take back everything I said...please oh please don't let me lose anymore good ones.

In all seriousness it was my fault..it was a bait that had lots of fish to its credit and had been bent back into shape who knows how many times. I should have retired it and just got a new one out...but you know how it goes its hard to stop throwing a bait that keeps producing. I had caught a 4 on it less than an hour before that. Honestly I can't even remember the last time I had a wire failure...been a long time...I usually lose the bait to a snag before that happens.

They're a spinner bait.  I throw them once in a while.  Some times they catch fish.  Some times they don't.

 

I don't see them as any better or worse than any other of the brands, except they are easy to find with the orange kicker blade that some others.

I like them but the first few I got all had rust on the hooks straight out of the package. I contacted Booyah about the first one I got with rust on the hook, they sent me 2 more, both had rust on the hooks. They're built great with quality components and the last couple I got didn't have that issue, but I was about ready to write them off because of that.

 

As for War Eagles breaking, catch enough fish on any spinnerbait and it'll break from getting bent back to form. I've broken the wire on every kind of spinnerbait I've owned, even the titanium Strike King and Terminators gave out eventually with enough fish. I've still got the first War Eagle I ever bought, almost 20 years ago now. No telling how many fish it's caught me. I've never had one break after just a couple fish, it's usually somewhere more like 50-100 fish, but at that point they've served their purpose anyways.

I agree that all of them break after enough fish..I posted above that tonight I broke a booyah. That bait had caught I don't know how many and definitely didn't owe me anything. Wish it wouldn't have happened on a big one...but it makes sense that it did and no pun intended when you fish a spinnerbait thems the breaks. It had been a long time since I had a wire failure...usually losing the bait before that would happen. But I'm pretty sure my last few prior were war eagles and that's why I mentioned it. Also I don't like how the wire breaks loose from the head so easily. Maybe its nitpicky and yeah its easy to fix with a few drops of super glue but it bugs me. Now the reason I have these complaints about war eagle is I do throw them...the reason is simple...they catch fish as good or better than alot of brands. Kinda like how Keitechs outperform other swim baits but they are fragile..that's the tradeoff...money in the wallet or fish on the line.

Funny thing is 2 weeks ago I caught a 6lb large mouth..my biggest fish since may. On what you may ask? A war eagle spinnerbait!

Long winded point I'm making is all I was trying to point out was that war eagles in my experience didn't hold up as well. But I definitely was saying they don't catch fish...or that I wasn't gonna use them anymore. I'm just more aware of checking them more often.
