Hey everyone. I am wondering what model NRX I should buy for Keitech Tungsten football finesse jigs. I had a shimano poison adrena 7’3 MH Fast and loved it, I am wondering if anyone could recommend which NRX model would be similar to the action of that rod? Thanks in advance.

853 or 893 would be my choices up to 3/8th jigs. I use an 873 for 1/2 jigs. The 894 is supposed to be the be all of jig rods though, but I’ve yet to try it.

I have the 853 and I wouldn't use it for light finesse jigs but I really like for 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs with a trailer.  Anything lighter, I would think the 852 would be a better choice.  

852c JWR is my light/medium wire hook finesse jig rod.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am trying to make sure I don't buy too stout a rod because I will be throwing these jigs on 12lb fluoro and the hooks are especially small and light wire for a jig. I'm not totally decided on which model yet but I suppose I'll see if I can get a few of them in my hands in tackle stores and see what I like best.

NRX hasn’t changed since their introduction over 12 years ago.

State of the art rod back then changing how the action of jig & worm rods work. Today’s world NRX is on the heavy side in the 4 oz weight range and not well balanced imo.

12 lb FC is the heaviest line I use for jig fishing in deep rock sparse cover lakes using my 7/16 oz jigs with 5/0 Gamakatsu 114 hook, .046D wire. To me the NRX 852 JWR is too stiff and under powered, not a good choice for your application, better heavy better suited for 8 lb FC and shaky 1/4 head jigs and drop shot. Presentation.

Definitely do a tough and feel test with reel and line is possible. Consider the NRX853 if using 12 lb FC.

Tom, do you think the conquest 842c would be better suited based on its higher weight rating and more parabolic bend? 

I don’t have any experience with the Conquest series rods.

My concern with NRX852 is the 12 lb FC using lures under 1/4 oz do to memory issues and small release point area from the stiffer rods. Trying to over power a cast with high memory FC doesn’t turn out good!

Tatsu FC is a lower memory line and 12lb is .011D. I can cast 1/4oz jigs using my MH 5 power custom rod with 10lb .010D Sniper, it’s tricky. 

The Conquest and Dobyns Exstecy 843C 1/4-5/8 Medium both have full cork handles. 

If you drop down to 8 or 10 lb Small diameter FC like Tatsu or Sniper all those rods should work, it’s your choice!

Don't understand what you mean, it's very confusing. If the NRX is considerably different than the IMX-Pro in power I see no issue. The JWR 852c has plenty of backbone for setting the hook on a finesse jig, or a jig like the SK Bisty Flip.

Maybe it's just me but I feel that a 3/8 jig plus trailer feels way too much for my NRX 853c

The rod just feels way underpowered. I use my 853c for lighter 1/4 oz jigs plus trailer and texas rigs. Maybe I need to give it another try.

The reason I choose a spinning outfit is line dia/#test to be compatible to the hook wire dia and lure weight.

Finesse jig is another debate in interpretation. 1/4 jig isn’t necessarily a finesse jig, it could have a standard 2/0 jig hook in lieu of a light wire 2/0 jig hook, such as the Bitsy Flip, both may weigh 1/4oz.

To me finesse isn’t flipping a jig of any size into cover and expect to control a big bass with a 2 power rod. A 2 power rod is normally spinning using 8 lb line max. The NRX 852C bridges that gap, finesse casting rod, but not BFS class because it’s too stiff upper 1/3rd to cast 1/8 or less jigs effectively. 

If the OP is willing to drop down to 8 lb FC or maybe 10 lb .010D FC then 2 power is feasible. At $500+ why not get exactly the rod that meets your needs.

That's fine, but the OP states he wants to use smaller light wire finesse hooks on his jigs.

He's also doesn't mention anything about 1/8oz jigs

 

Define light wire, 2/0 under .035D round wire Is a 5/0 with .041D forged light wire Gammy #114.

PS, the Gammy 114 is light wire and 604 standard wire I use. Both with 5 & 6 power rods w/12 lb FC.

I’m with you tbag, I don’t throw anything over 5/16oz plus trailer on the 853. I throw 1/4oz shakeyheads and finesse jigs a lot with that rod and it’s perfect for me.

3/8oz definitely my top end and like you 1/4 plus trailer is the sweet spot. The 853 fishes definitely on the medium side of medium heavy. What I do like the 853c for  mostly is throwing weightless flukes on 12lb.

  I have the glx852c and it is my finesse 1/8oz jig on 8 or 10lb rod. 

I have an 852, 893, and 894 and really like the 893 for 3/8 oz Keitech jigs with finesse trailers. 894 is a bit too powerful for that jig but you could get away with the 852 if you're looking for a versatile finesse baitcasting setup. I don't have any Conquests but do have an 842 GLX that is also very versatile and similar to the 852 with a fast instead of xf action. If you like the MBR taper better for jigs then the 843 GLX or Conquest may also be worth considering. 

I have the Poison Adrena and have had many of the NRX models that have been mentioned. If you are wanting NRX sensitivity and an action similar to the Adrena, I would consider the NRX 873CRR. The tip is softer and would work well with your Keitech’s. The new NRX’s are around the corner. I would try to find a used 873CRR. Good luck!

I've been going back and forth on the 873CRR or a Poison Adrena for a dedicated 3/8 and 1/2 oz jig plus trailer rod.

 

Also anxiously awaiting any news on the new NRX's. Do you have any new info on them?

It looks like COVID has pushed the release of those rods until next year. I expect they would release them around the Bassmaster Classic.

I managed to get my hands on and select an 853c. It's an absolutely phenomenal rod, have caught some big spots on it already on Lanier. It seems the 3/8 jigs I am often using pair perfectly with this rod, it has perfect flex for casting, long range hooksets with lighter wire, and transmits plenty of vibration. Hope this helps others in a similar situation.
