Any Advice on Pond Fishing?

Featured Replies

I will be fishing some small ponds tomorrow, the weather is going to be 70-80 degrees. Any tips on what to throw in? Much appreciated.

5” Senko weightless Texas rig has been working for me.

Ponds to me mean bluegill and bluegill eating bass. My choices in the small ponds around here are: light Texas rigged creature bait like a brush hog or D bomb- weed less rigged weightless senko- and my personal favorite a 1/4oz bluegill color swimjig with a rage menace trailer. If the water is still warm where you are a frog can be great to.

Senko, spinnerbait, crankbait, Texas rigged creature, if all else fails the Ned rig.

I am going to small pond tomorrow as well, but I am throwing 8" swim baits. the pond you have is grassy? use lipless, also use crank bait to the depth that meet the top of grass, so if top of your grass is 4 feet deep, use the crank bait that going up to 4 feet.

if you didn't get success on this two you can always go finesse. I hope it helped.

Don’t forget about a fluke.

Apparently anything with a hook on it will catch bass in your pond!

Right presentation in the right place... Below is the same pond using spinnerbait, crankbait, and trick worm.

Flatsided crankbait is my #1 producer in the ponds I fish as far as numbers lately as the waters have been getting significantly colder. Spinnerbait is my #1 for quality...caught my PB slow-rolling one a couple weeks ago. I caught one on a jig on a very cold morning last weekend. I've been wanting to spend more time slowing way down and dragging a jig but the cold has been having me want to move around the water, keeping me a bit warmer walking the banks lol

Squarebills and lipless cranks. As posted above, the bass will likely be eating bluegill this time of year and with that warmer weather they will likely be active.

Once you locate the bass you can throw a jig and go for quality over quantity.
