Float n fly with soft plastics

Featured Replies

Hey yall, float and fly user for years. I'm thinking about trying something new and instead of using a fly, I'll use soft plastics on a light ball head jig! Its like an, "adjusting dropshot" that i can change depths without retying knots. I'll use:

*a light fairy wand with 6-8lb fluorocarbon

*rubber bobber stops to adjust the diving depth anywhere from 1 to 100 feet.

*line through bobber (float)

*1/64oz - 1/8oz ballhead jig.

*any soft plastics

What do y'all think? Sound crazy?

I've caught countless bass on small plastics under a bobber fishing for crappie, it works just fine.  A 2" grub or tube is my go to but a crappie stinger would be another good option.

I actually tried a Ned rig under a bobber with high hopes this past year and was severely disappointed with the results.

I've caught a few brown bass lately using the baby shad on a drop shot.

Use a Maribor jig or berkley powerbait minnow under float. I’ve caught bass up to five lbs.

My buddy has caught one over 8 lbs. on a crappie jig in winter.

I do it alot. With the mentioned BG baby shad or a gulp minnow. When its tough and some chop to move the bobber on its own I like it and it works. I'll either nose hook a gulp minnow on a small #4 hook or a 1/16 oz jig head.

This time of year, a cheap cane pole, about 8-10 feet of yellow Stren Original, 6 lb test, a non sliding green/ yellow styrofoam float, and 3 feet below, a 1/16 or 1/24 jig head with a 1 1/2 inch TUBE, blue head and white tentacles:  a Crappie( SAC-A-LAIT) killer.

Throw it up against Cypress stumps and twitch it.

Easy fishing!

I've got a BnN 10 foot TREE THUMPER on its way to me now. ( upgrade from Cane pole)
