What would be the best technique for a 7’4 medium heavy mod fast? I was thinking maybe chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. Recommendations? It’s a st croix

CRANKING, lipless cranks, big topwaters, chatterbaits and swing head jigs.  Maybe even small or light Alabama Rigs.

Just curious..... Which St. Croix rod is it exactly?  Most of their MH Mod Fast rods are designed to for flippin and are more stoat than your average MH rod.

If it falls in line with it's other 3/8 -1.25oz  rods, a 1/2oz-3/4oz  jig with trailer is it's sweet spot.   I think if you stay around 1/2oz you'd be good to go for chatterbaits not sure how this rod would be for spinnerbaits though.  I tend to like a fast or x-fast for that technique. 

 

 

I'd use that for moving baits -- spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, buzzbaits, especially.  I'd prefer a shorter rod for topwater walkers and poppers, but it would do nicely for whopper ploppers, as well as crankbaits that fall in the lure wt. range -- probably 2.5 squarebills, some medium divers, maybe deeper.

Everyone's going to think I've lost my mind but I would try a frog on it in sparse cover. 

Swim jigs and paddle tails on an owner beast hook with under spin blade.

It could work! I've caught plenty of frog fish on my cheap Shakespeare "catch more fish" combo (6'6" medium/fast), but missed many more

stretchy light line for cranks.. like 12 lb and dt10s or heavier flouro and slightly larger bladed spinnerbaits with a little resistance to load the rod nicely during retrieve
